what were your symptoms of lymphoma?

Hi I’m not sure I should even be on here but here goes,

I’ve had a swollen neck node since around May last year, I thought nothing of it until a few weeks ago. I started getting extremely tired so much so I’m falling asleep at dining table or having to go to bed for a nap. I like running but have found myself a little breathless and of course no energy to run like I use to. A few week ago I had a week of crazy night sweats which I put down to the menopause and my itchy skin I put down to dry skin. Got blood tests done at GP surgery and they’re all normal range, my gp isn’t concerned bout the swollen node and says tiredness is because I suffer from under active thyroid but I have this feeling something isn’t right with me, so should I push for another appointment with GP or just wait? Also what were your symptoms before diagnosis?

Sorry if I’m not on proper thread

  • I would ask for an ultrasound with biopsy first, if they are not worried they may not do the biopsy but it would put your mind at ease. They do the ct after if it’s a positive biopsy as it tells them the the stage of cancer. The biopsy tells them if it’s lymphoma and what type it is. I hope you have a happy birthday, take care x

  • Really sorry to hear about your Mum. I will keep pushing and yes I will ask for that.

Thank you for the birthday wishes and thanks for the advice xx

  • Hi Lou,

About a month ago a got a lump in my neck after I had tonsilitis about two weeks before. I thought it was just down to the tonsilitis but it didnt go away, I went to the doctors and he refered me for a blood test, had that done everything was normal apart from slightly raised inflamation. I went back and asked what to do next, he was concerend at the size of the lump and refered me to ENT where the doctor examined me and had a camera down my nose (not a great experiecne i'll tell you know) and he then refered me to have an ultrasound.  I had my ultrasound yesterday and they took a biopsy there and then and I am waiting for my results now. I'm really worried! I feel normal, maybe a bit feverish, very tired, but i'm 20 years old and at university so putting it down to stress at the moment! Hopefully my biopsy will settle my mind too.

    GG xx

  • I’m so sorry about your mum x I’ve an appointment  to see gp next week but honestly I know before I go it’ll be put down to viral infection or my thyroid. I’ve taken notes of everything that’s happening with me this last few weeks and tbh it’s just a long list that makes me seem like a hypochondriac and I really don’t want to come across like that to my GP. Anyway I just want to say thank you for taking time to reply x

  • Hi Georgina

im so sorry you’re going through this, such a stressful and worrying time. I’ve had this swelling on my neck nose since last year so maybe it’s nothing and I’m worrying unnecessarily. I really hope you get good news and sending you positive thoughts and wishes x

  • Thanks Lou means a lot! My mum alwasy says don't be afraid to ask the questions, if you're worried and getting stressed by it best thing you can do is go get it checked ask if it could possibly be anything bad such as cancer and it'll put your mind at ease, thats what i did hun.

    Love G

    xx

  • Hi Georgina,

Hope everything is going well with you, just wondering if you have any update on your situation? Thanks!

  • Hi Lou

I’m surprised by your experience. Blood test detect a number of things, like thyroid or throat  infections that could have an influence on the development of the bump, but that’s all. I’m being given a CT scan and an ultrasound (with biopsy) as a matter of course. My symptoms are not as clear as yours. You need them examined thoroughly and you need that now, even if it’s for peace of mind, which is super important on it’s own. My advice? Do go to another another GP. I’ll bet it changes.

  • Any updates on your situations Lou or Georgina?

I've felt a small lymph node on the back of neck for at least 2 years which doesn't move and feels hard  but not rock hard. I noticed it roughly around the same time as having tonsillitis so I put it down to that.

Anyway, I went to my GP in July for a suspected breast lump and told my GP about the lump on my neck. She referred me to the breast clinic and told me to ask them to check the lump on my neck if I have an ultrasound, and if not then I should go back to her to get it checked again.

I had my appointment at the breast clinic on the 31st July. I had an ultrasound for my breasts which was fine (what I was feeling was just fibrous tissue), they then kindly checked my neck on the ultrasound and told me "that's just a tiny lymph node, nothing to worry about". That was me then, I could go home with good news...

But about 3 weeks ago, I was checking my neck again, as I just felt something in the back of my mind telling me perhaps they got it wrong. The lymph node at the back of my neck is still there... And then I found another one just above my collarbone, it's small probably 7mm, it moves, feels quite soft. But it hasn't disappeared. Google tells me all sorts and now it's all I think about. Since finding that one, I can feel about 3 other ones, all roughly the same size. I just keep going in circles with it, perhaps I'm just one of those people who can feel their lymph nodes, maybe they've always been there and I've just never paid any attention to them. They don't hurt but the more I press on the more they ache.

I've also had pretty regular loose/soft stools and I often need to go to the toilet quite urgently, but my mum and sister both have IBS and just assume I could have it too, it's never really bothered me that much.

I do have very very occasional itchy skin all over my body without a rash, but again, it doesn't bother me as it's not constant nor unbearable.

I have no nights sweats or fever. Oh and I'm 3 weeks away from turning 28 years old.

I just wanted to know if anyone else is in the same boat and how are you others getting on?

  • Hi everyone,

I read through all the previous posts here and I wish you all the very best and I hope you are all doing well.

Like the previous posts here I am curious to know what my symptoms mean.
Since December 2019 I have been having terrible night sweats almost every night. I have an itchy scalp and sometimes my skin is itchy too, but nothing that I thought was symptomatic of anything, I have had terrible fatigue and this was going from a lady at 40 in great shape running 4 times a week to a lady napping up to three hours and still unable to get out of bed in the morning. I haven't lost any weight but I have very bad cramping and swelling in my abdomen after I eat. Worryingly I have a very swollen lymph node on my groin that is causing pain down my left leg and tingling and also a slight limp. I went to my doctor, had blood tests and they were clear, had a colonoscopy that was also clear and I am going for an ultrasound next week. The more I read the more my symptoms are leaning towards lymphoma but like others here I don't wish to sound like a hypochondriac and my doctor can be dismissive.

I wonder does anyone agree I should push this matter. Sorry to ask just feeling very bewildered at the moment.

    thanks in advance
