Head scan result

If after a head ct scan I got a result to just see the nurse for  an appointment does it mean anything negative or is everything fine because I didn't get a comfrum result just see a nurse and book appointment to see a nurse from my GP . The result was sent to me by post but didn't say either the result was OK or not just said I should book an appointment through my GP to see a nurse . What does it mean? I am Concerned and worried

  • Hi Roycool. Welcome to the forum.

This is a tricky one to answer because the way results are given varies by area of the country and from consultant to consultant. This means it's difficult to draw too many conclusions.  All I can say is that it is common practice, but by no means universal, to give out results (whether good or bad) in a face to face consultation.

However, my own personal experience is that when I was given the result of my prostate cancer biopsy, which was positive for cancer, I was given the news by the hospital's top consultant.  But last year when I was given the all clear for throat cancer, the results were given by a young registrar.

To me, it seems unlikely that they would ask you to see a nurse if the news was very bad; I would expect they would ask you to see your GP.  But I am just speculating.  Everyone here knows that the wait for results is simply agonising.

  • Thanks telemando.. Yes I agree it is agnoy waiting for result but I hope you getting on with your with your prostate cancer biopsy and hope treatment is positive as well

Wish you all the best buddy

  • My biopsy was back in 2010 and I had surgery to remove my prostate. So far the surgery has worked and I've not needed any further treatment. Fingers crossed that continues.

Best wishes back at you :)
