Swollen lymph on left side of neck

Hi everyone,

my name is Charlotte and over the last few weeks I have been reading some posts on here and I thought I would join in and try and get a bit of reassurance/stories from other users.

Around 3 weeks ago I went to the doctors because I had 2 lumps on the left side of my neck, one hard and one quite soft, located directly underneath; my doctor ordered blood tests which have come back normal except for high bilirubin and low globulin which are being repeated in a month (full blood count, urea and electrolytes etc - don’t think there were any Tumor marker tests) and she also booked me in for an ultrasound which is next Tuesday. But I am really struggling to think of anything positive that could come from hard lymph with no other signs of infection, when tonight I was having a feel and noticed another node on the right side of my neck and I have gone into total melt down. I am on the verge of a panic attack, I’m terrified of dying and leaving my child and baby and I can only think of the worse. Positive stories will help or anyone in the same boat who can advice me. I know I can’t do anything to stop this but I can’t help but feel ‘dirty’? With these hard lumps in my neck, I just want them to go away. I will update as and when. Thanks for listening.

  • Thank you Jolamine and for all your support over the last weeks. Have you had the results of your liver ultrasound as yet. Please let us know how that goes, sending love and prayers xx

  • That's made me feel so much better that some can just stay raised! I use to have repeated infections and my mum said the raised one now  would always come up in my neck guessing it's one that's just stuck around but I'm just so worried!

  • Hi emily, Have you heard any more on the biopsy date?

I was wondering at what point did your doctor refer you for more tests? I've had a swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck for 5 weeks thats growing, then i've noticed four more on the other side in my collarbone and lower neck. Mentioned this to not my usual GP as they didn't have any appointments with my usual GP and only had a phone call appointment with the doctor saying it's "just some lymph nodes, you might just have an infection" although i've had it for weeks.

Was just wondering if i should push for more tests or leave it as it is? I've got a rash over my arms that's like pinpricks and has bruised horribly (doctor said "you must just bruise easily" without even knowing what the rash looked like), i've been so short of breath recently, getting a nosebleeds and extreme bone pain and i'm just really really anxious about it all.

    Hope all is well! x

  • Hello!
ive not heard anything about the biopsy date yet at all! But i rang today to the secretary like I need to know what's going on. It was me who asked for the biopsy for peace of mind I've just read so much online that I've just convinced myself of the most awful thing possible! And honestly please push for your tests!! Don't take no for an answer it's your body and you need to know what's happening with it. Please don't take no for an answer! Xx

  • Hi Emily,

I will ask the ENT to repeat scans again to compare and contrast. Hopefully this will ensure that any changes are monitored. I think it sounds positive that you will be have the biopsy and I'm sure there's nothing to be worried about. The ultrasound would pick up any concerning elements xx

  • Hi, i think it would be advisable and of course for your peace of mind to be referred to ENT, these referrals are expedited under the 2 week pathway for prompt review. Of course this could be an infection or viral response but the key thing is to not prod or poke around as it causes the nodes to swell.  I would push for a referral at the soonest opportunity and whatever you do, don't try to self diagnose through google. It's a scary thing to do when anxiety levels are at an all time high. Please let us know how it goes. We are all here to support one another xx

  • Hi Sophie

just checking in to see how you are .... I hope all is ok xx

  • Hi,

I had my ultrasound Tuesday, but no results as of yet. I've had more lymph nodes swell in my right hand side neck and collar bone. I've also got bloods in two weeks. Doctors don't seem overly concerned but I'm worried still!

  • Hi Sophie

it sounds positive that the doctors aren't too concerned, did the radiographer give you any indication of their thoughts?  I guess it's normal to have raised glands, I understand that this is our bodies reacting to infection or viruses. Do let us know you get on and best of luck xx

  • All the radiographer said was she couldn't find any masses or lumps, but I can't feel any lumps just the swelling but I suppose that is positive. I will thank you! X
