Waiting on blood results

Hi I'm really really worried so just looking for a bit of advice and reassurance. About three and a half weeks ago my boyfriend found a small hard pea size lump in his armpit. He says it can be moved slightly between his fingers but I'm not so sure. After pushing and pushing him to go to the doctors he finally got seen as an emergency patient at a GP that wasn't his. She felt the lump and has told him he needs to book bloods and a scan with his GP the next day. He know has a blood test scheduled tommorow. I know that this could be nothing but it could also be cancer and I'm really worried. He is 21 and really fit and healthy although I know sometimes that doesnt mean much. I'm just really scared they're going to come back positive and I'm not sure how I would cope or help him cope.

It probably doesn't help that I've googled lumps and most forums says if it's hard and painless like his is then it's most likely cancerous.

Thanks x

  • Hi ellie_teee. Welcome to the forum.

First thing to say is DON'T PANIC.

The second is STOP USING GOOGLE.

Despite what you might have read, most lumps are harmless. Cancer at 21 is pretty rare, and there's any number of possible explanations for this lump, with cancer being way down the list.

The GP is simply being cautious in ordering blood tests and an ultrasound, but there is no reason right now to think that this is going to be anything sinister.

So please try to keep calm about this.  Just take it one day at a time.

  • Thank you so much ! I think sometimes it's so easy to get into your head with these things and you certainly think the worst immediately! I will try to calm myself down. I've always been a worrier and Google certainly doesn't make it any better !

    Thanks again !
