Swollen tonsil on one side and nodes for a year. Worried!

Hi all, new here! Long post alert. But thank you for anyone that takes the time to read!

I'll try keep this as short as I possibly can! I've tried to find answers reading through the forum, but all I seem to see is posts from people who have only suffered with swollen nodes for a few weeks/months. Mine started Feb 2018. One swollen tonsil, and about and inch sized node in my neck on opposite side. Got told by a GP was tonsillitis, although felt well in myself. Returned 2 months later after as no improvement. Had slight rash on base of neck. Referred to GP at hospital who said it was not Mono and that was pretty much all that was said. Went back to doctors in October, saw a different GP as no improvement, plus body aches tiredness, on and off chest pains and enlarged nodes under jaw. Got told tonsillitis and felt palmed off. When back last month I saw a different GP again (my actual GP) as I noticed a few new englarged nodes on collar bone (pea sized). He wasnt concerned until he asked me how long the largest one had been enlarged, when I mentioned a year he referred me to ENT and I have my first appointment 11th March. Has anyone else had similar? Or knows of what the next step is? As I have no idea what my first appointment will involve. I'm worried as I have a 14 month old boy. I'm only 25. And I'm worried if it is cancer, I would have already had it for a year. A year of waiting has put my anxiety through the roof! I'm supposed to be enjoying my son (this all started 3 months post partum). Im worried where there are so many swollen that if it is cancer it's spreading... Anyone have positive stories if lymphoma/cancer was unfortunately your diagnosis? I need positive vibes!!

  • Ent consultant will likely use a nasal camera to have a look at your tonsil area it doesn’t hurt tickles but that’s all

Hi don’t panic don’t google please dr google is your worst enemy .i was diagnosed with tonsil cancer last May and gotbthe all, clear in January just 6 weekly ent visits for this year n then next 4 years.

Trust your dr mine said 99 % turn out to be nothing I was in the unfortunate 1% .dont know a deal about lymphoma but a friends of ours had it and heavy nightbsweats and rapid weight loss were his symptoms. So enjoy your son and the 11 March isn’t that far away.

Please ket us know what happens if it’s bad news there’s is a good support network on here’s

  • Thank you very much for your reply! I'm familiar with the camera as unfortunately my little one has to have them due to an airway defect called Laryngomalacia. Hence why I worried about something being wrong with me as I have to care for him. I'm not experiencing any major symptoms (i.e. Night sweats or major weight Loss), but everytime they have checked my temp at the gp appts I have had a raised temperature and I have lost weight but not an alarming amount... So I'm trying to think positive in the fact that if it was Lymphoma related, then my symptoms aren't major so maybe a good sign. Im trying not to worry as I know tonsil cancer and lymphoma in themselves are not death sentences, my main concern is if it's started in one and spread to the other... I'm lucky enough that no one close to be has had cancer. So I'm a novice and have no idea what is/will happen to me.

I'm glad you now have the all clear! That's comforting to know! Will keep you posted! And will do my best to focus on my little one, he's on the move now so he luckily keeps me busy, it's the bit at night time when he's gone to sleep that my mind goes in overdrive through not being occupied!
