Do i have lymphoma?

Hi everyone!

This is a bit of a long post, but id be extremely grateful if you would take the time to have a read :)

Three years ago, i was having stomach pains Dr sent me for a ultrasound and found a enlarged spleen, about 16 cm.

I have been followed up at hematolgy ever since, bloods ok, other than esr and crp levels slightly raised. just over 2 years ago i had a failed bone marrow was done (not enough bone taken) and a ct scan, nothing was abnormal other than my splenomegaly, they did a blood smear and that was normal drs didnt know what was wrong they could find no cause, i was told lymphoma couldnt be ruled out, but at the same time there wasnt anything to suggest it was.

I continued to be followed up every 3 months, with bloods and general chat with my dr at hetmatogly, main symptoms tiredness, looking pale and having nausea and pain around spleen area, utis now and again.

I then fell pregnant in summer 2017, continued to feel unwell but dr put that down to pregnancy, had my baby, put on 4 stone, over pregnancy had a adominal scan and they noticed i had a fatty liver.

Started having night sweats so dr did bloods to look at minerals and ldh which was all normal then ordered a pet ct scan that showed a enlarged spleen at 17cm and slightly enlarged liver, the spleen having fdg uptaken, it said on the report of possible diagnosis of Hodgkins lymphoma, my dr said he didnt think it was. I had a succesful bone marrow biopsy that showed slight scarring but nothing else, i then had a another ultra sound scan on a few months on, and my liver was down to borderline enlarged, and spleen 15cm.

My dr thinks the slightly enlarged liver is from fatty liver, and said will follow up, im seeing him next month and having another abdo scan, and routine  bloods.

The last 2 months i have had all over body itching, worse on legs, bum and feet, with little red dots, could this be lymphoma? With everything else going on im worried.

Any opinion on what could be wrong with me?

Thank you so much to anyone that has read all of this :)

  • Hi clarelaurenclare. Welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid that most people here don't have any medical qualifications; the only exceptions I know of are the nurses. You can contact them by posting in the Ask the Nurses section of the forum, or phoning directly on 0808 800 4040 during office hours, Monday to Friday.

I can understand your concern. This has been going on for too long, and now you have the itching to contend with. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely return to my GP with this new symptom, say that you're worried about cancer, and ask whether a specialist cancer referral on a two week pathway would be appropriate. Say that you really do need to have your fears put to rest. But then please don't panic if your doctor agrees to the referral! On average, 9 out 10 people who get these two week referrals turn out NOT to have cancer.

No doubt other members here will come up with a few more ideas before too long.

Please let us know how you get on at your doctor's.
