Chronic Sore Throat

Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice, I've had a sore throat (especially when swallowing) for nearly 4 months now. Been to the docs numerous times, had 2 complete full blood tests (for all sorts), ultra sound of the throat/glands and also seen an ENT specialist who put a camera down my throat. All of which came back fine... But still the pain is there. Good old aniexty is 0telling me it still must be something serious although with all the tests which have been done i should be confident there isn't.

So question is, has any one had a viral infection which wouldn't shift/go away. Or could the anxiety just be causing this all along?

Many thanks all in advance

  • Hia.
Sorry to hear about your symptoms. So many of us.
Just a couple of things. Mine started about a month before lockdown, around the middle to last week of Feb so not lockdown related.

I have a smallholding so am always outside getting plenty of Vit D, fresh air and excercise. In fact lockdown doesn't affect me hardly at all as animals still have to be fed etc every day of the year.
I'm slightly wondering, as so many of us started this around the same time, if it has anything to do with the rollout of 5g.
Two GPs have said I have all the symptoms of radiation poisoning inc burning throat, swollen tongue, mouth ulcers, hair loss and hypoxia. They don't know why I should have them.
    Its a thought.

  • The word "Radiation" is very vague and there is a world of difference between nuclear radiation and the radio waves used in 5g technology.

In the UK, 5g is using frequencies which either overlap with the existing 4g network, or which go only slightly higher.  These frequencies are a very long way away from the dangerous X-ray and gamma ray frequencies, and it would be impossible to tinker with the existing transmitters to get them to produce such dangerous frequencies.

You might not even live in an area where there is 5g coverage.  There's no 5g where I live, and yet I still have a chronic sore throat.

The symptoms you describe could possibly be attributed to some nuclear radiation, but that is very unlikely - unless you've maybe got some old clocks or watches with luminous dials. But hair loss is a well known symptom of thallium poisoning. Have you considered the possibility that you're really a character in an Agatha Christie novel?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your sore throat that you have had for quite some time now.

Unfortunately no one on the forum can tell you what the matter is but I can appreciate this is getting you down and you would like some answers.

Do talk to your GP again and see if they can take a swab to check for infection. Whilst GP's are carrying out telephone appointments the surgeries are still open and have been all the way through. They are limiting how many people are in the building to reduce the risk of covid, but are seeing patients face to face where necessary.

There has been delays to appointments I'm afraid but I am sure they will see you in ENT as soon as they possibly can. Of course if symptoms worsen or you notice anything else unusual speak to your GP who may be able to speed up the referral.

I hope things settle down soon,

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi Smiles8181, just checking in to see how you are? I'm having MRI tomorrow but I can see a ulcer near where my tonsil was on left side and I'm terrified. Hope you're ok. And you've got answers. And hoping you're ok.

  • Hi, I had ultrasound and tests done was told they didn't think it was cancer but they were unclear still on what it is, I was given an appointment to go back for further tests but with covid I have been put back in shielding and so I haven't gone back. I am still having bad issues with my throat so I will go back for further tests when it's safe again xx I hope all goes well for you with your mri xx

  • Thanks for replying. Hopefully that's good news then as if wasn't you'd have been in by now. Weird how CT scan picked up abnormalities. But maybe that was how it was at the time then when you had ultrasound could have gone back down. So scared as don't know what else a sore spot ulcer looking thing would be for so long. Really worried. Xx

  • Hello all, I've signed up after discovering this thread as it perfectly describes me too (over a year; have had blood tests, CT scans, allergy tests and a tonsilectomy with no improveent)

Given how long this has been going on for myself and many others in this forum, I wondered if there was any reassurance to take from the length of time the symptoms have gone on.

If the sypmtoms were caused by a form of cancer, how long should we expect things to progress?

For example, I've had a constant bad sore throat/congestion for over a year now. While it's no fun, it hasn't gotten any worse for months – if it was something sinister, surely something would have shown itself by now? I can't find any good info on line about the average timeline between stages of cancer to know if this theory makes any sense!

  • hi Koonga1. Welcome to the forum.

Mine's been going on since Xmas 2017. I had a full ENT workup at the time with nothing significant found.  Since then, it's not gone away; sometimes it gets a littler worse, sometimes a little better.

Like you, I'm hoping that if it was something really sinister, it would have showed itself by now.

  • My persistent sore throat turned out to be syphilis. If anyone is in doubt, please get tested. I'm sure it won't be that, but if your drs are stumped like mine was, it's worth checking everything. Good luck everyone

  • Hi can I just ask a question to anyone on here. I keep getting a sore throat, it tends to only last a day or so. I spoke to my GP that every now and then I get a sore throat which doesn't last long but does come back at other times. And she said if it goes it's fine but if it's persists then we will take a look. This has been going on a couple of months now. So what I want to know is, are any of you suffering persistently or does it come and go like me!
