breast cancer at 18?

My right breast recently became a lot bigger and different shaped- with some strange lumps. I'm not sure if the lumps are meant to be there though. Could it be cancer? What should I do?

  • Hello angelcakes1; welcome to the forum.  I would say the chances of your having breast cancer are small.  As these lumps you describe are clearly bothering you then I should make an appointment to see your doctor asap.  S/he will be able to give you an idea of what may be causing the lumps and tell you how to deal with them. it is better to know the cause as it can then be dealt with.  Do - but only if you wish - let us know what the doctor said.  Best wishes.  Annie

  • Thanks Annie, will do!

  • Hi there,

As Annieliz has said, it's very unlikely to be cancer, but all new or changed lumps should be checked out by a GP, that's the rule!  There are many non-worrying conditions of the breast, some of which are very common in young women, particularly something called fibroadenoma.  I was first diagnosed with that at 17.  It may be your GP has to refer you to a breast clinic still, and that can worry people, but breast clinics are not just their for cancer, sometimes their expertise is needed for other conditions too.

Best wishes, let us know how you get on?
