Cervical ectropion and colposcopy

I was first diagnosed with a cervical ectropion last year during pregnancy due to spotting. On two separate occasions during pregnancy two different doctors told me I had an ectropion and didn't seem worried.

6 weeks after having my baby i had my first depo shot. A week after that I have had light pink spotting on and off evey since. I went back to the doctors last week and said I have got myself really worried about cc. She offered to look at my cervix which I agreed to and she said the ectropion is definitely still there and bleeds on contact, and has referred me for a colposcopy. I am now worried sick that I am going to be told I have cervical cancer, but my last smear was in 2016 and was normal so surely things can't be that bad?

I've made myself so sick with worry that I have now been prescribed diazepam and a mild anti depressant. I just sit looking at my 2 young children and feel so worried. My youngest is only 3 months old. Cc was never mentioned during pregnancy. Really need some reassurance as my anxiety is through the roof.

Thank you

  • Hey! I'm really happy to hear it's just CIN1 for you.

I had my colposcopy yesterday and she said there were some abnormal changes and she had to take a biopsy. She said from what she saw they were CIN2, and pre cancerous. Which made me instantly panic and I started crying.

The doctor I had was very factual and not particularly empathetic, plus there was a student nurse, and a nurse in there too, so 3 people in total, it was all a bit much!

I have to wait for the biopsy results to come back, but am expecting I will need treatment. I am very anxious at the chance they will come back as cancerous rather than CIN2, but some people are saying they would have been able to see if they were cancerous cells not just abnormal from the colposcopy.

My cervical erosion was also still there, I hope this clears up soon!

  • Hi,

thanks for replying again! The bleeding has kinda stopped for me at the moment so I'm not sure whether to just stay on the pill and deal with it if it happens again. I'm glad that there's nothing serious going on instead.

Im sorry to hear you've been feeling anxious and that the colposcopy wasn't as easy or reassuring as it should've been. The wait for the result will be difficult but you just need to distract yourself and I'm sure it'll all be fine. The nurses are really specialised so I'm sure it's only CC2 and if so then you can get treatment and then it's removed. Like me, I'm sure you'll be glad that you've been checked out, your symptoms could be due to the erosion still.
I hope everything goes well for you, if you would like then let me know how your results go and the next step x

  • Hey Hattie,

I hope you're well! I wanted to let you know that my test results came back completely normal which I'm really shocked about. I hope you've not experienced any more or new symptoms and are all well.

take care and thanks for your support throughout it's been really comforting.

    xx

  • Can I ask how you got on with this ?
I am 22 and have been fighting and fighting for a smear after being told that I have cervical ectropion last year.
I have a family history of cervical cancer and I'm sick of doctors just telling me to go get an STI check

  • Hello, I had a colposcopy today where they confirmed I have cervical entropion, they took a biopsy and said I can expect the results in around 10 days. My smear came back normal around s week ago. Due to Covid they had stopped doing routine smears it was only as I has irregular bleeding I had one. Its been an awful couple of weeks as you always think they worse. The consultant trued to reassure me today that this is not linked to cervical cancer and is very normal.  I hope that helps a little.  Xx

  • After having constant gynaelogical problems for months I have finally been referred for a colposcopy and ultrasound (been waiting 3 months already but the referral got lost so starting over again). I was also told I probably have a cervical erosion. I have had thrush 6 times in the last year but my doctors don't seem to care even though this can't be normal and I follow all the advice (I find it so patronising being told to wipe front to back like I'm not a child). Just wondering if anyone else had these issues and can sympathise with not being taken seriously because I am just so fed up from all of this.

  • Hi all.
a few months ago I was having painful sex with my partner. I went to the doctors and he saw that I had a cervical erosion. Sent a referral to see a gynaecologist. Saw the gyno and he said it was a variation of normal.
I have been on the pill years but decided to come off to try help get rid of the erosion.
I had a baby 2 years ago and had a erosion during pregnancy which I guess went on it's own after my baby was born.

My question is did anyone have any other symptoms other than bleeding?

I keep getting what feels like urine infections (without the infection) and a fullness feeling inside of that makes sense!! And also lots of discharge too (I'm up to date on smears and have been Sti checked and have nothing)

sorry for maybe too much info but have felt my cervix and it feels huge and swollen.
My doctor has referred me back to the gyno to have the erosion treated so waiting on that.
It's been like this for about 3 months. Has anyone's erosion healed on its own and how long did it take?
It's all really getting me down and sex is a Nono as it hurts too much.
Had a ultrasound and all normal but really hurt when she did the internal as it obviously put pressure on the erosion.
    sorry for the long post

  • Hello, I just had a drs app today as I've been having cramping and lower back pain.they are my only symptoms, she.did and internal and said that she could see hormonal changes on my womb and that it was raw. I've been referred on for a colposcopy but I'm a mess thinking its cervical cancer. Would this we similar to entropion? I'm just so scared

  • Hello, this sounds very similar. Try not to worry I know that is easier said than done. I had a diagnosis before Christmas and they said it was erosion of the cervix.  They did a biopsy during the Colposcopy which came back ok, I also had a smear too. The worst thing I did was Google my symptoms and worked myself up, try to  keep calm hopefully your appointment will come through in 14days.  Look after yourself.  Xxx

  • Thank you so much, when I heard hormonal changes I just lost my mind. I have no bleeding or tenderness so I just hope it's nothing serious. My anxiety has gone through the roof. I'm so happy your results were good xxx
