MRI scan

hi I am awaiting results of breast and lymph node biopsy and nurse said I need chest x Ray and blood tests( which I’ve had)and MRI scan. Is this normal protocol when waiting for results?

  • Hi there Jane,

    Welcome to the forum.

I can't say for sure if this is normal protocol but I suspect it is.  Needing a lymph node biopsy can be enough for them to want to do the MRI and other tests (dependent on which lymph nodes it is).  If anything it's being thorough really, which is good.  If it helps I've noticed they do have a habit of breaking the news of more tests to us in stages so it isn't necessarily that they've added more to their original plan, they maybe just didn't tell you about it originally.

Anyway, all that aside, how are you feeling?  The waiting is the worst time in all of this palaver, we've all been there so happy to chat if you think it would help.

  • Hi LJ I am feeling like crap at the moment, not for me but my daughter who is due to have my first grandchild in 4 weeks.i will be telling her later. I need to be here for her as her partner works away. I just felt like yesterday they were telling me all this news and there was nothing to grasp at! Do they always test lymph nodes or did they see something in scan do you think?my mind is in overdrive, sorry to burden

  • Awww, congratulations on the first grandchild, that's something lovely to look forward to.  But sorry you're feeling so **** :(

They do usually as far as I'm aware, test lymph nodes.  Mine did look dodgy on the scan, but first time my mum had breast cancer her lymph nodes looked fine and they still did a biopsy.

You are absolutely not burdening anyone.  We're all going through all this c**p too (yes, pretty sure this site blocks that word :D ) and I think what you've said about yesterday hits the nail on the head "nothing to grasp at".  It is the wait for answers, whether good or bad, that is the worst.  The not knowing.

It will seem like forever just now but the time will roll by quickly and you'll get your results and know what you're dealing with.  Hopefully it will be nothing, but if it is something then at least you know we're all here.

If you don't mind me asking what prompted the biopsy?  Was it routine mammogram or did you find a lump?

  • I found a hardness quite big in my left breast, had it about 2 months now. The doctor who examined me yesterday said I think it’s a cyst but let’s make sure and the mammogram and ultrasound showed it up as small lump,my doctor looked shocked at results too be honest. Thank you for listening to me it’s a comfort to know someone is here ask questions and you’ve helped such a lot,Thank you

  • No problem at all.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a cyst.
