Worried about my husbands swollen lymph nodes!

Hi I’m new. My husband is 37. He had melanoma when he was 12 years old which had spread to lymph nodes in his neck. He had them removed. He received treatment and has  done great ever since. He has lost a lot of weight which he said is from going to the gym. He’s been at the gym for years and hasn’t lost much weight until now. He’s lost weight pretty fast. He has found two hard swollen lymph nodes on his groin area. They are really hard and don’t move much.  He’s always tired (but claims he isn’t) he has had a CT scan a week ago but no results yet? Would we be contacted by now if anything came up??? My anxiety is through the roof as we have four kids two with autism and one with adhd. Can these lymph nodes be nothing to worry about?

    Hi Worriedwifey,

This must be a very worrying time for you both. There is no correlation between the speed that you get results and whether the results are good or bad. Most doctors like to give results face-to-face, but occasionally they are given over the phone or by letter. The more usual way is for you to receive a phone call asking you in for an appointment to receive your results.

You should hear something soon. I sincerely hope that it is good news. Can  you accompany him to his appointment? It is always a good idea, especially when someone is getting results. It is also a good idea to draw up a list of questions you have for his consultant. This ensures that you don't forget anything in the heat of the moment.

Please keep us informed about how he gets on. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for your reply. I will definitely be going to the appointment with him. I am absolutely terrified to be honest. I really hope it’s going to be ok. ️

    Hi,

I am glad to hear that you are going with your hubby to his appointment. It can be helpful to draw up a list of questions before you attend, as it is all too easy to forget what you want to say in the heat of the day.

Don't forget to let us know when his appointment comes through.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there,

I guess the first thing to say is that they really can be nothing to worry about.  Neck, armpit and groin are common places for swollen lymph nodes.  Still, all new lumps need to be checked out and with your husband's history and the weight loss and tiredness I can understand why you are worrying.  The only thing I can say with regards to worry is that it robs you of your joy today and it could all turn out to be for nothing so, much as it's easier to say than do, it is always best not to worry until you have to.  You already have a lot on your hands I imagine with 4 kids and the added complication of neurodevelopmental conditions.

As Jolamine says there is nothing to read into in terms of when they contact you they will just contact you when they have the results.  It isn't uncommon at all for results from scans to take a week or more.

I could see how a virus or condition developing somewhere in his digestive tract could possibly lead to the three symptoms you mention, so I'm going to hope for that.  Still, if it is the bad news then please do lean on us on here if you feel we can help.

Let us know how he gets on?
