Breast lump

Hi everyone

I am new to the group. I have a lump in my left breast I have no other symptoms and it isn't painful. Went to the doctors today who said it was pretty big and will refer me to the breast clinic.

I'm not sure what I want to ask really, as I know they obviously want to rule out cancer. I suppose I am worrying more now, I thought if the doctor thought it was ok nothing else would be done. Can doctors tell if it's cancer or do they really not though until it's been tested ?

  • Hi there ..

And welcome to our little chat room ... all Drs I know of, now treat every lump carefully and refur everyone with a lump to get it really checked out, as they are meticulous now ...

My first 4 call backs were fine .. and each time I'd panicked... but they say 8 to 9 out of ten lumps are o.k and not cancer .. so the odds are good ... try to keep busy as poss .. and I got mamorgram,  scan, and biopsi taken when tested .. although it's not too bad, it's good to take someone with you .. if they do a biopsy , it's sort of like having an ear pierced... and soon over ..

Take things as and when they come up ... and remember it could be o.k for you too .. and even if it is positive, there's lots of us breast lasses on here and getting through it .. it has come a long way now ..

Chrissie x let us know how it goes ...

  • Hi everyone had a biopsy last Tuesday and got recall for nx Wednesday not sure how to feel ‍♀️ I think I’d rather know now so at least I can sleep properly

  • This is exactly how I felt when I went to see my gp end of November, I felt sure it was nothing and the gp would say the same.....but when I look back I can see clearly that he was doing his job...of course they don't have X-ray eyes and of course they will refer breast lumps to the breast clinic.

The clinic is a very slick operation, where you may get a mammogram ultrasound and or biopsy...or like me all 3! This is called a triple assessment and they are being very thorough.

As anyone on here will testify it's all the waiting that screws your head, it's hard not to let your mind wander off to dark places......the only advice I can give is stay off dr google, you will more than likely diagnose yourself with something horrendous! Keep dipping in and out of this forum, it has saved my sanity and the people here are just wonderful and supportive...

Before I forget, remember the odds are in your favour...it's something like 8 or 9 out of 10 will be benign.

Keep calm and carry on.... xxxxx

  • Has anyone been recalled and things were fine hahaha I’m giggling typing as it’s a stupid question

  • Hello, so your getting the results next wed? It's really hard not to worry isn't it, will someone go with you? Good luck and let us know? Xxx

  • Hi Kylie looks like we have the same issue in the same boob x keep me updated x

  • Yes had biopsy on 9th and got a message yesterday appointment on 23rd that’s 2 weeks waiting driving me mad I rang this morning to ask if they would tell me over the phone I knew the answer I just wanted to check. Does this only mean bad news though? Do you get called back if your fine? Nerves are shot x thanks for the chat x hope everyone is ok x
  • Yes, this is the norm, when I got my call to go in for results I asked if she knew them? And she said she didn't but even if she did she couldn't tell me as she wasn't a doctor ( kinda makes sense really) so this is the protocol....

good luck...will you post back to let us know? Xxx

  • Hi everyone still waiting for an appointment, it's been 1 week today and I was put on the 2 week list. The hospital said they are that busy there are no appointments and they are trying to fit another clinic in and will ring me with an appointment but still nothing

  • Hi, yes, I heard this before, where someone will get a call out of the blue to come in as they put an extra clinic on...so carry your mobile everywhere you go!

I had to wait the 2 weeks....was almost on the dot..... are you staying off google?? Lol xx
