Waiting for breast biopsy result

Hi

I had a breast biopsy and mammogram done last week and have spent the last 6 days in complete fear of the results. After the biopsy and mammogram I was called back into a room with the doctor and a bcn to be told the mammogram was very worrying as the mass looked highly suspicious. As a 42 year old mother of 2 I have been beside myself with worry it’s been with me 24/7 and anxiety levels through the roof!

Today I got my results (I was literally crying on the way into doctors room) it’s not breast cancer, it’s a Fibroadenoma. I wanted to share this so that anyone going through this awful time can see suspicious lumps don’t always mean cancer. I also want to wish everyone good luck whatever their outcome xx

  • Hi,

Try not to worry I know. Its hard the week waiting I was there 3 weeks ago now. I too thought they would shrug it off but had mammogram then ultrasound then biopsy. The weeks wait was the worst bit. Mine turned out to be a fibroadenoma. It is still there are hurts now and again but I just need to keep an eye on it.

Come back and let us know how you get on it really helps other people looking for support x

  • Hi both So nice to hear that I am not alone (in a good way) it’s terrifying. I have to have a biopsy next week too and I’m besides myself my mom died of bc 29 years ago! So it fills me with dread to see what it is. I have checked myself but can’t seem to feel anything? My left breast has been really painful of late but think that’s because my period was nearly two months late (50 yr old) but it’s the right one they want to check which doesn’t hurt which bothers me even more. Let me know how the biopsy goes. I’m sure we will all be ok but still a horrible time waiting for it and then again for results. Good luck x
  • Hi Lisa

I hope you get good results too I was like you both my mum and nan died of breast cancer within 6 years of each other. I will be hyper aware of things from now on x

  • Thank you ️ I'm scared of the biopsy too! Did it take long? Glad your results was positive

    Hi Hannahbanana,

    Welcome to our forum.

I hope that you get good news on Thursday. Even with a cyst, they sometimes like to  check that there is no cancer present. Remember that only 1 person in 8 gets a positive diagnosis and, the younger you are, the more unlikely you are to have cancer.

Our minds tend to run away with us at this stage and, our sleep is often interrupted as a result. I hope that you get good news on Thursday.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Lisa,

I'm so sorry to hear that you are struggling with the wait. I know how terrifying this is, as I too lost my Mum to brest cancer 22 years ago. I have been diagnosed with two bouts myself in the past 11 years and have had a lumpectomy, followed by a double mastectomy the following year.

It is good news that you cannot feel anything yourself, but sorry to hear that your left breast has been sore. Hopefully, this is more to do with your period than anything else, as it is unusual to have pain accompanying breast cancer.

You will be given a local anaesthetic prior to having your biopsy. It only takes a few seconds to take the biopsy itself. This is normally done by inserting a teedle with a small grabber at the end of it. Your biopsy will be guided by ultrasound so that they can take a small sample. Sometimes they take a few samples, so don't be worried if this happens.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Here's hoping that both breasts are clear.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

thank you so much for your words of reassurance.  I think when your mom has had it you do fear the worse, and so sorry to hear what you went through, but so pleased you are ok Now ️
I was worried about the procedure but knowing it's done under local now has reassured me. One less thing to worry about. i don't think I can feel anything. It's hard when you don't really know what you are looking for, especially as breasts are so lumpy. I can't feel anything hard?

I will keep you posted and let you know the outcome.

    thanks again

    Hi Lisa,

Some people have naturally lumpy breasts, so your biopsy should pick this up if this is the case. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is diagnosed and look forward to your outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thankyou. Really appreciate your support ️
