Terrified

i hope someone can put my mind at ease. I had a really severe uti early last year and an ultrasound which did not show any issues. I had what I thought was another uti late last year but my gp saw blood in my urine and thought it was due to kidney stones. I had another ultrasound which showed a small 3cm mass on my right kidney. Following an urgent appointment the consultant he arranged a ct scan with contrast . He said that because nothing was there in the earlier scan that he didn’t think it was anything serious. By that I took it to mean, not a cancer. Two weeks after the ct scan I have been contacted to say that they wish to do a biopsy. I have an appointment next week with the consultant to discuss this. How worried should I be? You

  • Thank you. I have had the biopsy today and it was far less painful than I had feared. Just waiting now for the results. Can anyone tell me if the tumour is malignant and is removed,  is there any other treatment that would be necessary, or will that be the end of it!

  • I must emphasise that I'm not a doctor, and this is to the best of my understanding.

With kidney cancer that hasn't spread (T1 or T2), the usual treatment option is removal of the affected kidney. Often, no further treatment is required.

Let's hope that you don't need any form of cancer treatment! Kidney cysts are very common and may not need any treatment.
