Symptoms of testicular cancer

Hi guys I hope you don't mind me posting, I have a little concern, around 8 years ago i discovered a lump in my scrotum on the left hand side at the top in my sack but not actually on my testicle, the lump was around the size of a pea, it did not cause me any pain or discomfort but it was very sensitive and every time I got it between my fingers and applied pressure on to it that was it I had to let go because it was causing me pain, that day i rang my GP and I went to go and see the dr, i was only 19 and I was kind of shy but I was very scared but the dr made me feel welcome and not to be shy, when i attended the appointment the dr was actually quite lost at what it could be so he arranged a ultrasound for a couple of days after, I attended the ultrasound and they found to be 3 cysts in my sack and they said I have nothing to worry about so my panic was over, they said they would sort them selves out after time so after a few weeks I totally forgot that I had these cysts, but after 8 years it is still there, I found it a few days ago, but this time I started getting a pain on the same side where it was located and it was like a pulsing pain, I rang the drs and got an appointment what I attended the day I rang, the dr examined me and said it seems to be a cyst and I shouldn't worry and don't lose sleep over it but he has made me an appointment for another ultrasound what I am waiting for at the moment, when he gave me the examination he only did it on the testicle/side what was hurting and he didn't actually examine the other testicle, after the appointment the pain what started in one side/testicle soon went to the other side/testicle and this is where my concern is, I don't have any pea sized lumps on that side but I can feel like a little bumb or lump on the actual surface of the testicle but it's not big but I can't make out if it's my skin or on my testicle, with the ultrasound will they examine both of my testicles or just the one where this cyst is located, I have been told previously that in the scrotum and testicle it's natural for lumps and bumps, if it was cancer on the testicle what are these lumps or bumbs like, are they painful, are they large do they start on the outside of the testicle or inside my head is everywhere and I am losing sleep.

  • Hello Giosue17,

Welcome to our forum! I think it is worth trying to follow your doctor's advice not to lose sleep over it though i can imagine it is a really stressful time for you and you are feeling very anxious about this.

Given that you have concerns about the other testicle, it might be worth getting in touch again with the doctor who made the ultrasound referral and asking him/her whether it might be possible for both testicles to be examined. Explain that the pain that you were feeling in one testicle has now moved to the other one and that it would give you peace of mind to have both examined by ultrasound.

I hope you won't have to wait long for the ultrasound appointment and that it all goes well. Do come back here if you can after you've had your ultrasound to update us on what they have said.

    Best wishes,

  • Well i had my ultrasound done what was on the 11th of january, the nurse informed me after i had it done that if i hear off my drs in 4 days its something to worry about if i havent heard off them then leave it 7-10 days and ring the dr for the test results.. well this is where it gets just a bit confusing and hand on heart i am fuming, a couple of days ago on the 15th of jan i rang my drs for an appointment because i started getting really bad stomach pain in my lower stomach, they didnt have an appointment for me until 6th of feb 2019 i said to them sorry its too long of a wait and they could only offer me a telephone appointment for friday the 18th and i said yeah that is fine, well when i was on the phone i asked has my ultrasound scan results come back she checked and said no they havent but she could see i had a ultrasound done last friday 7th of jan, but no the results are not back i said ok thats fine, well today the 17th of jan i rang my drs this morning for a prescription as i ordered it i asked if my ultrasound results has come back, after a few minutes wait the lady says yes we have got them but there is no notes on the file so she couldnt tell me the results but now the dr is ringing me tomorrow after 12 to discuss the the results, so at this moment i was like right ok but thats it my heart seriously dropped and i could not get a word out side ways, this is my concern, i rang up the company who did my ultrasound a few hours before i rang the drs to ask if they have been sent over and she said yes we sent them tuesday and the dr has recieved them, so i went on to ask well is it something serious i need to know about as i am currently away and its hard to make phonecalls due to time difference and the lady said she isnt qualified so i said that is fine, but why has a member of your staff who was there when the ultrasound was done said to me if you hear off the dr up to 4 days its something serious, i cant count saturday or sunday as a working day so to me its been exactly 4 days today, the woman who i spoke to told me that the nurse shouldnt of said that to me as its wrong information the company like the ultrasounds looked at asap and sent back so there isnt any delays but sorry to me i think thats a lie because she sounded very nervous on the phone but she tried to reasure me that the company like the ultrasounds back as fast as possible.. the question what keeps going around my head is that if i didnt have an appointment tomorrow would i be getting that phonecall about results, what are the results going to be, if theres nothing there why would they need to talk to me about test results when he could mark on the file all clear and then the women behind reception tell me its all clear, i am so worried about the worst outcome i am actually heading back home today and got a 9 hour flight ahead of me. So tomorrow i find the news of my ultrasound

  • Hi Giosue17.

Wow. There's a lot going on there.  First off, and bearing in mind I'm not a medic, a cyst that has been around for 8 years is probably going be quite harmless. Secondly, what you found at the top of your other testicle was probably a structure called the epididymis, and nothing to worry about.

As for the rest --- well, welcome to the club. What has happened to you has happened to hundreds of thousands of people.  It's called a snafu.  One staff member tells you something with 100% conviction and sincerity, only for that information to be contradicted by another staff member a few days later, who will swear blind that what the first person said has never, could never, and will never, happen. If companies were forced to pay £1 for every time this occurred, then there'd be a lot of bankrupt companies. Essentially it boils down to fallible and overworked people having to follow ill-thought-out procedures.  The way your information is handled depends critically upon which person gets hold of it first; people who should do the same job in the same way actually do it in different ways. They think that other people who they don't really know are handling the paperwork in one way, when they're actually handling it in a different way, and the result is confusion, bewilderment and despair. This is what has happened to your results.  At some point they will end up with your GP, but until you, the GP, and your results actually end up in the same room together, you won't know what they are.  But it's important to remember that this snafu has not affected your results in any way. They don't get any worse the longer you have to wait for them. All of this frustration does not make it any more likely that you will have an unpleasant surprise.

As for the rest of your frustrating phone call, there are any number of reasons why you shouldn't receive the results over phone. First, the company would need a qualified person on hand to give you the results, and that person would need to be able to answer any and all questions about every possible finding for every possible patient. Putting on a note to say all-clear wouldn't work; it's fine if things really are all-clear, but what if they're not?  I think being told that there's something wrong but you can't be told what it is, and you have to wait to be seen by your GP to discuss them would simply increase the stress. And finally, how does the company know you are who you say you are when you phone for the results?  Presumably your GP surgery know you, but an external company has no way of identifying you.

So, while the wait for results is frustrating and frightening, and all this messing about doesn't make you feel any better, I'm afraid it's the way things are. You're not being selected for special treatment, and this delay is simply the result of a fallible system designed by humans. It has nothing to do with how good or bad the results might be.

  • Hi

I am 17 and found a lump on the back of my testicle and it's not attached to the empididtmis

  • Hi there,

I am extremely worried about this lump I have that moves from the Back of my testicle to the top but it feels still connected to a vein or something to my testicles. My veins on my testicles are a bit tender but i don't know if that is because I keep playing with it or it's something else. The lump is not actually on the testicle like I said it is coming off it with a vein or something stringy anyway. I am 19 years of age to.

If anyone could let me know what this could be I would appreciate it.
