Endometrial polyps advice

Hi everyone!! I feel terrible writing on this forum because I haven't had a diagnoses..but please if anyone has similar symptoms please give me advice

I had my daughter 18 months ago and ever since very heavy bleeding. Of course I went to the doctor was put on tranxamic acid and the pill, months and months went on and there had been no improvement, my periods are incredibly irregular.

Last 2 weeks and only be off for 1 week then I will be back on again.. so 3 months ago I was referred to gynaecologist, she had a look at my cervix and did a biopsy.. all looked fine and biopsy fine. Then 3 weeks later I had a ultrasound scan done, scan showed 2 bright white spots on the lining of my womb, unsure wether this was because of the biopsy they asked me to have another scan 3 months later, since the first scan I have had bleeding with very large clots but they still no sign of being regular. Had my scan done today and the sonographer  found 3 more white spots some 1 to 2 cm other 2 to 3 cm so they found 5 altogether now, 1 of them has a blood supply flowing through it. She also mentioned that the lining of my womb was very thick and that I have a lot of discharge, she said this is usually seen in somebody who is about to have a period, I finished 2 days ago. I've now got to wait for appointment to come through to have a operation to remove this spots, polyps was mentioned but she was not 100 percent. Then they will do another biopsy on them.. wouldn't the previous biopsy show up cancerous? Why do another? I'm 27 years old with 2 children both terrible labour's. Please if anyone has had this can you speak to me x

  • Hello Lily26,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum and I hope that you will get chatting here to others who have been through this too. It does sound like a very anxious time for you and I hope you won't have to wait too long to have the operation. I am not sure why they have mentioned you needed to have another biopsy but try not to read too much into it. It sounds like they are being thorough which is a good thing.

If you have any questions or need to talk to someone about this, don't hesitate to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Let us know how things go for you and I hope the operation goes well.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi. I'm sorry I'm unable to offer any advice to your situation. All i can say is i hear you, thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. Telling someone not to worry is like telling a small child not to touch something. So I wont. I will say that the ball is rolling and the tests will rule out or find out whats going on. My scan and polyps removal took about a week for the appointments so hopefully not too long for you to wait. I hope someone is able to reply to you with a similar story and are able to put your mind at ease.

  • Hi, I was just wondering how you got on? I have had problems with heavy bleeding for over 14 months, I have been going the doctors but only got referred for an ultrasound recently. They found what they think is a polyp. I have just received appointments for another ultrasound and a gynaecologist app. Apparently it’s urgent because of my age (35) I was just wondering if this is normal as I didn’t think 35 was old tia xx

  • Hey everyone me again. Still no change here. Periods are still lasting 2 weeks, and only 1 week in between.

I have a operation on Thursday 9th may to remove these polyps. I'm praying the biopsies will come back fine.

This will be my first ever operation. I am so nervous. My husband will be there with me, I've always lost alot of blood giving birth and always needed blood and iron transfusions.

It's supposed to just be a day operation, my body has always been funny with bad things. After my son I had retained placenta 16 hours after birth it was removed manually, then after my daughter I had retained placenta for 2 months after birth, I ended up having a blood clot on my lung which came from the placenta, I was admitted for 5 days.

  • Ok so I had my operation yesterday, bit of a weird one... are you ready?

As you know the scan showed up 5 polyps/ tumours each scan I had they were still there. I go to be put to sleep, and I wake up, *I'm sorry they didn't remove them* very confused at this point. Doctor comes to speak to me, turns out their was nothing there. Cervix looks smooth and fine. And womb looks furry. So they took a few biopsies from my womb and inserted a coil..

Where the heck did they go? What were they? Did they miss them in the hysteroscopy? What has been causing my periods to be like this? So many questions.

I'm devastated because something isnt right. My hormone levels are completely normal.

The pain though from this little procedure was through the roof.

4x iv morphine 3x oramorph, paracetemol and ibuprofen. I was in recovery room for 2 hours because no medication was touching the pain, if anything the pain was getting worse. Felt like contractions plus someone setting fire to my insides..

Has anyone ever experienced this before? X

  • Hello how did u get on if u don't mind me asking I'm going through same thing I'm 37 , possibly polyp and thickening of womb worried sick

  • Hi lily...so i had procedure hstertoday for removal of what was supposed to be quite a big polyp and thickened lining of womb. After procedure dr comes to me and says lining of womb was normal and not enough to take biopsy and didnt mention finding so called polyp. Now i was pretty out of it but i know she said not enough tissue for biopsy........3 weeks ago it was urgent to get me in and get it removed and biopsy done but then today nothing.

I have coil fitted and had periods with it only spotting and then i didnt even have it for a year but 6 months ago i started bleeding on and off.....brown grainy yuck!

I am so confused and my husband is going crazy at the pain i am in and the fact they apparently couldnt find anything when 3 weeks ago there was alot there that needed removed.

I also have severe back pain with it and they wouldnt even entertain my back symptoms.

I am clearly no further forward and tonighy albiet a bit stoned and sore from surgery i am left yet agin wondering what the hell.

  • hi edele. Well im still no closer unfortunately. I am now a year and 6 months in, since the operation and coil fitting. Im hoping to go back to doctors once things have calmed down and request another scan. My periods are similar to yours 2 weeks long and only a week break nothing has changed my end. If the polyps show up again then something needs to be looked at further. I dont want to have a hysterectomy at 28. But its just going to far now!

  • That’s terrible,I know we in a pandemic, but I was referred back in October 2019, I’m in so much pain some days,me too I’m 46 now and me and hubby havnt had sex for about 10 months too. The provera I’m on is also giving me side affects, but can’t stop it or I be bleeding heavy.I be ringing the secretory tomorrow,I can’t go on like this in pain.

Hope you get some news soon,it’s not good enough is it.xxx

  • Hi rose. Well unfortunately no change here. Im still currently bleeding every week. I actually went to my doctor few weeks ago she said i had cervical ectropian. Which is erosion of the cervix. Apparently this was diagnosed back when i had the operation. Well it definitely wasnt. I was booked in for a scan which i went to on christmas eve. And all she could see was a cyst on my right ovary. Got to have another scan in 4-6 weeks i mentioned about the polyps. And the sonographer stated she couldnt tell me if i had any or not as the coil actually hides them. So im no closer to finding out whats going on now. I havent had intercourse with my husband for at least 8 months due to the pain and bleeding. Im actually due a smear test next month.

Im hoping you get your answers rose let me know when you do.
