Breast dimpling and referal to clinic

A few weeks ago I started getting a pain in my left breast on the outside so after taking a good look there's 2 dimples appeared. I went to the drs who said the breast is swollen too, there's no lump just the dimpling. She said she wasn't referring me to rapid response clinic but referring me to the breast clinic, well my app is Thursday and tbh I'm so scared. Has anybody had this happen to them? And what should I expect Thursday? Xxx

    Hi Becks,

Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry that you've had to join us here.

I am glad to hear that you have already been referred to the breast clinic. Only 1 person in every 10 referred turns out to have breast cancer, so hopefully there is nothing untoward with your breast, but you are best to get it checked out.

On Thursday you will get a physical examination of your breast, then possibly a mammogram and/or an ultrasound and a biopsy. You will then have another anxious wait for about a week before you get the results of these tests. This is always a scary time in any cancer journey and we are always here for you.

It is always a good idea to take someone with you to your appointments, particularly when you are getting results. It can also help to draw up a list of questions for your consultant before each appointment.

Please let us know how you get on. I have my fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • More often than not, you'll know that day if it's nothing to worry about. It could be many thing so try not to worry, easier said I'm sure x

  • Hi,

I vividly remember my wife's first visit to the breast clinic after she discovered swollen lymph nodes under her armpit.  I can mirror the above comments completely and that is exactly what you can expect to go through at the breast clinic on the day of your visit.

If for any reason the mammogram does reveal any suspicious areas the doctor / nurse will usually tell you on the day of their suspicions, although you will still have to wait hat week for any biopsy results to come back and confirm it.  Also, at the same time the biopsy is taken they will usually tag any suspicious areas with a microscopic tag, this is done so that those areas can easily be located later on during treatments and or surgery.

Please don't go through this alone, take someone with you for support and also surround yourself with family and friends if you need to.

  • Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I've gotta attend tomorrow appointment alone as hubby is taking time off from work to look after our 2 boys. As soon as I know what's going on tomorrow I'll update x

  • Good luck tomorrow, it will be a slick operation, like above...mammogram possibly ultrasound and possibly biopsy ( you may need another appointment for this)

They are all professionals and well experienced with their jobs, put your trust in them . The waiting for results is the worse bit, you mind will go into overdrive. Keep us posted....we are an awesome lot on here, there will always be someone to chat to...

    Hi Becks,

What a pity that your hubby cannot go with you tomorrow. However, you will find it more important to have him with you when you get your results next week. Can you arrange for someone to look after your 2 boys then or can you take someone else with you? What ages are your boys?

I am hoping and praying for good results when you get them. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
