Multiple lumps in lower back. Very confused.

Hi guys, sorry to post again about all my lumps and bumps, i suffer horrendously from health anxiety and finding all this lumps has put my mind into overdrive. It helps me to write it all down on here and vent.

I’m growing increasingly concerned over multiple lumps that I have found in my lower back, just above the hips and near the dimples. They are on both sides of my back and almost mirror each other perfectly. I have counted between 8-10 lumps all varying in different shapes and sizes. Some of them feel like ovals and other feel quite flat with unclear edges. I went to the doctors about this and she said they were lymph nodes and nothing to worry about, which put me into a panic. I couldn’t understand how so many lumps could appear and the doctor just says “no worries it’s fine, just forget about it.”

The thing is, I have lymph nodes I can feel all over my body, and these don’t feel like lymph nodes at all. They are softer, more uneven and moveable. I did some research online and I found multiple doctors and people saying that there aren’t any lymph nodes in that area of the body?! Is this correct? Because now I don’t know what to believe. None the less, I am absolutely terrified and no matter how much I try to calm myself down I just can’t stop fixating on it. Does anyone else have lumps such as these on their lower back?

  • I felt a bump on my lower back that doubled in size over a few weeks. I have bad back pain when I sit which until finding the lump I put down to bad posture.
After coming here to check what others say. Worrying, worrying more I finally went to the docs. Due to covid I could only get a telephone appointment. The first thing the doc said to me is there is no lymph nodes in the area of the small of back. I struggled to find that information online. Sure it tells you you can feel them on the back of your neck when you type it into the google but couldn't find anything on back. So anyone with the same worry as me I hope this helps a little. After that the doctor just said to leave the lump alone and revisit it in a few months.
I asked to be referred to a private doctor at the local hospital as I wanted someone to actually look at me. At the hospital again the first thing the doctor/surgeon said was there is no lymph nodes there. Then after inspection he told me I was just fat. A Lipoma. I am probably 1 stone over weight so I am no way fat. I hope this again shows that you don't need to be fat to get a lipoma. The reason I wanted to post this here is I googled loads before the doctors and had myself worried sick. We all know we shouldn't but we do. However I very rarely see people coming back on their previous comments once they've finally been told what their lump or symptom is. So just wanted to say that my lump was harmless but caused me so much anxiety. My back pain has also pretty much disappeared as I'm no longer thinking of it 24/7

  • Thanks for your post. It almost exactly describes my lump, I also low back pain when sitting just now! I think I'll moniter it for a few weeks and see what it does. (I also have a large lipoma on my shoulder so must be prone to them)

  • Hi JohnW85 did you get urs checked out and conformed is Lipoma ?

  • Hi do you have these lumps is yours hard

  • yes kind of , sometimes is bit softer and when its smaller and when gets bigger getting hard. I can move it aswell . How is urs ?
  • Where Is your lump located ? So urs changes with the way it feels etc then? Mine feels hard/rubbery and moves about but seems worse when I bend over

  • same by me its on lower back left side. i have feeling change sometimes its hard/ rubbery aswell . I have feeling sometimes it goes down a bit with swelling when check in mirror u clearly can see it and another days looks like gone but isnt its just not visible but when touch is theyre . when bend over its horrible sometimes painful or when sit too long same position.

  • Is it like near your kidney area? I can't see mine can only feel it so worried though ,  has a doctor checked yours ? Did they seem worried if so? What kind of shape is yours and size roughly ?

  • Hi, sorry for late response. The lump was a lipoma. It felt very hard to touch. No pain and was moveable. It did hurt when pushing on nerves round about it.
  • Where was your lump located did it feel big

  • hi sorry for late response my one is more like lower back left side on middle of trunk like where kidney's are located. When stand straight ist not much visible but soon bend over a bit then  you clearly can see it. I send my Gp picture as only online appoitments this times when found it and he wasnt worried about as never came back to me. Before send pictures he said if he thinks is something to worry about it he will get back to me and never went back to me at all so must be fine. My one is as said hard rubbery touch and only when u push on it its hurt sometimes. I m reckon is fatlump as seen alot in same position as my and theyre said its called Back Mice. I m a skinny person so its more visible by my i reckon. Size is like a Marble i would say maybe bit bigger .

  • thank you so much for let us know , did u had any scans or doctor just decided from look ? My one same when pushing around it hurts , its movable aswell

  • No scans or nothing. He knew as soon as he moved it about. Yea mines was a little bit painful if I kept moving it about. I checked it every 5 minutes lol.
Get yourself booked to go and get it checked and make yourself feel so much better

  • What did he say when he felt it ? Did part of yours ever feel like it didn't move much at one side compared to other or did it all move freely

  • Mines moved from right to left up and down but not left to right. So I had myself convinced it was growing from something that couldn't be moved. As soon as he felt it he knew it was a lipoma. Yours sounds mega like mine.
I also have one at my wrist now but as it's not noticeable and causes no pain I will leave it

  • ha u sound like me i touch it everytime and reckon thats why its hurting . i will deffo get it removed as dont like it at all my gp isnt concerned at all i send him pics when i found it as was lockdown send him several picture and said if he is worried he will get back to me but from what it sounds is like lipoma fat tissue . But as said i dont like it and deffo get it removed i was worried aswell it could be lymphnode but he was laughing and said i would be someting special if have lymphnodes theyre

  • just seen about wrist i have one but very hard one on left wrist

  • Got these lumps , which are painful, both sides of my lower back and both sides of my abdomen and a large lump under my breast central above my stomach. Over 10 years back in had a lump removed from my forearm which was very visible and causing a lot of pain in my work.  So recently seen my GP about these visible and painful lumps, his quick advice was use ibuprofen blah blah. And it would cause more pain removing them.!

  • Hi everyone, its soo comforting reading your all stories. So about 2 years ago I noticed 2 slipperly bumps over my dimples, didnt think much of it until about 2 months ago when I noticed I have about 4 more of them all kind of sizes. I got soo concerned with them I cant stop touching them to see if they growing. They hurt when I bend down or sit up for too long, like while driving. Went to see a dr, out of hours, ( very young one, which I presumed she didn't have much experience with these kind of stuff?) she couldn't find them at first. Took her good 10mins to locate the biggest one and she looked confused, said she didn't know where to send me as it was about 5cm in size and quite hard. That have sent my health anxiety through the roof to the point I cant sleep I cant eat. I constantly think of my son and husband what if worst to happen. I have another appointment coming in 2 days which my gp said he wanted to feel them for himself before he sends me for a scan. Now I could swear they growing but might be just swollen from me constantly touching them? Give me some advice guys, Im seriously struggling here.

  • Oh and may I also add, the pain is more like burning sensation. Its hard to describe it? I do feel like it goes on to my bottom too, but more like tingling on the top of my cheeks rather than aching. God I really do hope it's nothing serious

  • Yes. I'm recently the same after my lower back started aching during prolonged sitting. I have a roughly 5cm (maybe bigger) long, very smooth but rock hard lump on my right lower back around the top of my pelvic bone. It doesn't move and with enough pressure I can dig my fingers down all sides of it. It doesn't hurt. I have a flatter one on my left side almost mirroring location but not size. It's less noticible and not as defined. My GP is so hard to get an appointment. I've had mine with sitting aching for roughly 6 weeks now. If it is Cancer, surely it'd be too big to care about treating now? Isn't 4cm or more stage 4 anyway? I have asperger's and talking to GPs is not easy for me to do.

  • Hi did you manage to get an appointment with doctor? I was very panicking over mine so eventually seen my gp which said he isnt worried and in his opinion its fatty lumps but for my peace of mind will send me for ultrasound so he referred me to bone/sarcoma clinic? Now I dont know if he wanted to speed it up and exaggerated it a bit or did he think it was cancerous indeed. Fair to say Im loosing my mind while waiting for the scan.
