Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • Hiya!

    I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner.

I have had the same issues as you in the past where its been some brown discharge appear after sex, for some reason I didnt think anything of it to be honest. I think its normal every now and again for this to happen.

I'm in the process with the doctors too about the bleeding, had a cervical examination which came out fine but have to book the ultrasound, which is a huge pain to do during a pandemic lockdown situation.

I remember normal for me on this pill is normally a tiny bit of spotting after some emotional trauma in my life (break up or death in the family) and brown discharge every now and again so I almost always wear a liner for as long as I can remember. I'd maybe get a breakthrough bleed of red blood once a year.

Hope it all sorts itself out though

  • Hi

I posted back in May having had irregular bleeding on cerezette and have since spoken to my GP back in October who said they are booking me an ultrasound, having chased last week I was told I just have to wait ( because of the pandemic) but I've not even received a letter for an appointment.

I've not been asked to go in for a check up which I think is weird and it sounds like this is what others have done.

I just wanted others experiences on what checks they have had with GPs and if you think I should be chasing up to be seen? Just a reminder, I've been on the pill for 6ish years never bled at all, some light spotting maybe 2 years ago but for the past year far more frequent bleeding, since my May post the bleeding has become far more frequent, last week was 7 days and it appears that I'm bleeding again today. The joy lol!

    I'm 35.

  • Hiya!

Yes I'm going through exactly the same as you and I've had to chase a few times and keep pestering the online form, ended up in tears to a nurse last week as due to the bleeding they won't let me have my smear.

It took two weeks for the ultrasound letter to come through and this is now booked for this Friday and i asked to swap to cerelle pill (went on this last year and was fine on it, seem to be having more issues on cerazette now)

Also I've been reading a lot about vitamin C and hormone levels.. I had covid symtoms back in April so had a lot of a vitamin C and zinc. After I stopped this I had a breakthrough bleed. I have found that I started taking the vitamin C again I had no bleeding and as soon as I forgot for a few days the bleeding started again.

I'm currently day 8 into another bleed and its getting worse since I stopped taking my vitamins (Wednesday last week) but apparently if you take a high dose of vitamin C and then stop it can drop your hormone levels.

Sorry I know you didnt ask about the above!

Are you on any suppliments whilst on the pill or have started taking any new ones since the pandemic started? Also one doctor said to me that this could be caused by 'long covid' as all the bleeding started after I had symtoms.

Please keep pushing for the US as it will put your mind at rest. My friend went through this a few years back and they found a Polyp but it meant after that she had the IUD put in.

Have you tried any other mini pill at all in the past year or so? Xx

  • Ok that's good to know, well not good but I wasn't sure if an ultrasound was needed but it obviously is something they recommend. It's just because the GP I spoke to didn't seem to be that knowledgeable. I will chase up again this week as it's been over 4 weeks since she said she would book me one.

No I've never been on any other type of pill because this one seemed to suit me fine and I never had any side effects. The main reason I called the GP other the bleeding was to talk about this pill I'm on and discuss changing it as I've never had a review but she glossed over this.

Hope you get on ok at the ultrasound. G

  • Hiya!

Thats a massive shame maybe ask to speak to a nurse about changing the pill instead? I've been quite lucky but I was stressing how much of an impact its having on my life. I played on the fact I wasn't sleeping properly or eating properly and it was making me ill.. try doing that too?

Hope you get seen soon any other questions please ask x

  • Hi everyone.
What a lifeline this forum is. To know you are not alone.

ive been on cerazette for 6 years and then out of blue I had a terrible heavy bleed in Feb this year. Clots and all. Would not stop. Taken to hospital and put on drip etc. T acid to ease the bleeding and neristerone to stop bleeding.
March. It happened again. Passed out. Had to stay in hospital for two days.
this went on another month until my body got used to neristoerone and bled during the 7 day break. However it had horrendous side effects. Can't stay in too long and in august I switched back to cerazette to try before going down the hysterectomy route. (I have fibroids)

periods were light and irregular and all over the place. Spotting went for days. Periods come and go. No settled pattered but I had expected it. I was just relieved I wasn't having extreme heavy bleeding work large clots. However out of the blue this morning. A big clot bleed happened. Went for two hours and now have settled. Wtf?!!!? I'm anxious as hell now as I think I'm going to have one of those heavy bleeds )filled a cup full in 8 mins) changing every half hour. Sometimes no point getting off the toilet.

I hope this is just a side effect of the pill and I hope my body can adjust and that my symptoms can be managed.
looks like we are all going through kinda the same thing.

  • Hi

ive been on the mini pill (desogestrel) for nearly 3 years I'm 18 nearly 19.

ive never had any types of period or spotting throughout those 3 years. Did have some bleeding after sex within the first year but nothing that lasted long.
the other day I experienced bleeding only really when I wipe but this is now the second day. I'm really unsure what I should do if I need to go to the GP.

  • Hello sounds exactly like me i m on in april now and really hate it. Periods very long now but not heavy. Sometimes have periods like 14 days , then week off and all starts over again. On daytime sometimes nothing and then over night starts all over again. I will change now time and start taking pill just before bedtime to see if same then fingercrossed help x

  • Hiya!

So I've written quite a bit on here but have had some developments i wanted to share..

So after bleeding for 12 days (very dark thick spotting coming out like once a day) i decided to change my pill from AM to PM as I took it PM till the start of all my problems and thought AM would regulate it back.. so anyway I forgot this and ended up double dosing for 2 days and the bleeding stopped!! Obviously I went back to one pill a day and after my 2 days of bleed free it started again.

So I asked the doctor if I could continue to double dose and she said yes . Im really hoping thats the cause of it.

But on top of that i had an ultrasound that showed a cyst on my ovary so waiting results from doctor on that and my smear test.

Doctor also advised me to take thrush medication as she said thrush can cause bleeding.

Then on top of that I suffer from interstitial cystitis and my urologist has seen something going on in my bladder from latest pee test but won't get full results until Wednesday.

Just thought you guys should know about taking 2 pills a day and if you want to do it id get advice from doc first to make sure its okay for you. I'll advice if it works in the long run.

In terms of what you're going through it may just be a normal breakthrough bleed. If it lasts longer than 7 days then contact doctor.. or if it comes back again shortly after. Just make sure you take it the same time everyday xxx

  • Hi I also have only been on Cerazette for 3 weeks and have just turned 50 and haven't taken any contraception for the last 10 yrs. I had 2 weeks of taking it when my periods started and it's been day 8 and I'm still bleeding though it has gone down.
I only started Cerazette with the hope that my periods would stop but even my normal periods didint last longer that 4 days.

Having read all the thread I've decided to stop taking it completely and go back to my normal cycle. I just hope i stop bleeding now can't handle too much of this at all.
