Dimple in breast and gp found lump

Hi I have noticed for last few weeks a change in shape at the bottome of my left brest it has dimple id say a inch long when i lift my arm however i do have implants and i assumed it could be that so didnt worry to much however the more i noticed the more I thought about getting checked and booked a GP appointment I went and she immedietly said she could feel a lump and has refferd me for the 14 day cancer track. I am 33 and feeling worried as I had not realised myself there was a lump. Can anyone also advise on the next stages. I only saw the GP yesterday. Thank you.

  • Hi there,

    Hope your doing ok

I just wanted to send a quick reply as I’m in a very similar situation to you, unfortunately for the both of us :)

I have a dimple at the bottom of my right nipple and gp says there is a lump there too (I haven’t felt it)

im booked in at the clinic for 21st Aug

Ive had two days of been all over the place and now just think I will deal with what comes.

Although I think I may not be completely myself as I bought my 2 girls a pair of budgies today

    I’m 33 also!

  • Hi I also went to my gp with a kind of dent in my breast...she couldn’t feel a lump but sent me for a mammogram as a routine check up. The dr I saw prior to the scan also said she couldn’t feel any lump but I would have the scan just to make sure. I had the first lot and then was asked to do a couple of extra ones which started to make me panic. Once they were done I saw the consultant radiologist who said it was an incidental find and nothing to do with the dent - he’d found a small lump on scan. He then performed an ultrasound scan and a biopsy all within 20 minutes...world completely surreal at this point!! I now have to wait 2 weeks for histology results and then they set a plan in place for treatment if it’s not good news. The only thing I can say to try to help is that once they see the lump it’s a fast path to getting it sorted. I feel completely all over the place but also thankful that my gp sent me even though she couldn’t feel a lump. The consultant said it was a ‘lucky find’ as it’s so small...but it doesn’t feel that way! I think the waiting for the appointments is just the worst feeling ever...I’m trying to keep busy and doing the same things I always do but I cry a bit in the shower!! Hope you keep your chin up and stay positive. Xx

  • Sorry that you find yourselves here. I am 3 weeks post surgery and the hardest part of this process was waiting for the results so my heart goes out to you. I’m afraid I had an awful breast nurse who compounded the anxiety I felt by going into different scenarios rather than play everything down. I guess what got me through the waiting was -‘ it’s not cancer until they say it’s cancer’. This mantra took some of the heat off for me and allowed me some breathing space and clarity of mind.

There are lots of women on here in the same boat so plenty of support and advice available.

    take care x

  • Thank you for this really good advice... I have all scenarios going through my head but I’m going to start this mantra, as it’s true! I’m afraid that because I’ve been assigned a nurse that they think it’s cancer...does everyone who is found to have a lump assigned a nurse do you know? Mine was so lovely with me and very positive but I haven’t rang her with any questions yet as I feel it makes it too ‘real’. Thank you again for your positive advice xx

  • I was assigned a breast nurse in the scanning phase, think that’s normal in case you have questions through to diagnosis, Once diagnosed i was then assigned a new breast nurse aligned to the surgeon to go through surgical options and to support me through the whole process.  I have to point out I did not have a lump but calcifications seen on a mammogram. So they were unsure at that point whether it was cancer but was still given a nurse so don’t read too much into it.

  • Thank you so much for replying; it helps to know that it is normal to get the nurse assigned from the outset this is such a rollercoaster of emotions so thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope you’re doing well after your surgery also. Xx

  • Hi there,

Sorry you've found the need to join us but it's a good crowd on here at least :-)

I had an almost imperceptible flattening at the bottom of my left breast, then found a tiny lump (around 1-2mm) and went to my GP the next day.

She couldn't feel any lump but I was not leaving without a referral for early screening as I knew something wasn't right (and I have firbroadenoma so I'm used to finding lumps and waiting for them to disappear of their own accord).

So I suspect, but it is just a guess based on what happened for me) your next step will be a referral to a breast clinic where they will do a manual exam and likely an ultrasound.  Depending on what they see/feel there they may be able to diagnose at that time or may need a mammogram to get a clearer picture.  Sadly mine was already stage 3 breast cancer so I'm very glad I pushed for early screening (having asked a number of times over the last 5 years due to family history!)  But as you know there are lots of things that can cause us to have lumps so I will hold out hope that yours is good news.

The wait is the thing that gets us all sadly.

Best of luck with it all and let us know how you're getting on, even if you just need to vent or rant during the hideous waiting phase!

    LJx

  • Surgery was the easiest part of all of this, apart from breasts being a bit larger, I see no difference, the scars are a masterpiece and I’m not in any pain. Thanks for asking x

  • Hey Katie and johno, please keep me informed with how you ladies do! I’m at the breast clinic on 24th and am 27 so feel like we are in the same boat, I just feel to young to even be thinking about the C word. But we just have to fight through what ever cards we are dealt I suppose- but this waiting around is a nightmare!

  • Hi there..you should either get an appointment to see a consultant or more likely to go for a mammogram. If this is fine you can be reassured. If there  are some worrying features on the scan they might do an ultrasound or and biopsy to check the tissue. Either way it will most likely be one week wait to get any results but the ultrasound which gets reported immediately ( if you had to have this). All investigations are painfree by the way. Good luck and bst wishes
