Do I have lymphoma? I'm so scared

Hi everyone,

I have just gone been to the doctors for a full blood test , I have no 'lumps' but I have lost 1stone this month without trying , decrease appetite, general feeling unwell most of the time and I have started getting pain in my neck and ears after consuming even a tiny bit of alcohol, I am 31 non smoke mummy to three amazing children , my youngest is only 6 months , I'm so scared , please advise me , I can't talk to my husband as he is really stressed with work, Does this sound typical of lymphoma? What are the chances of a diagnoses from blood test results?

Any support or advice is really greatfully received , I'm desperate,

Thank you

  • Hi, a year ago i found a lump on my neck, omg the panic i felt was horrendous.  All i could think about was my 4 girls.  It turned out to be an enlarged moveable lymph node.  A year on i still have it.  I check it every week.  When i go to the dentist they check it.  But it could change so im cautious.

The waiting and not knowing is the worst feeling ever.  Im sure the doctors are checking for all scenarios but if you need to realease some thoughts im here to listen.

  • Thanks for the reply think I'm the same just worried what it all means for me and the kids x

Did your doctor refer you and what kind of test did you have to diagnosis it ?

  • Hi,  i was on holiday and came back early   as the lump was obvious.  I had been ill, so was expecting antibiotics from doctor.  No he referred me urgently to ent, 2 weeks..  I went private i was that worried.  Seen within 7days.  The consultant was amazing he felt it and said its a shoddy lymph node.  That was it.  He was head of ent for 2 hospitals.  Felt comfortable with his diagnosis.  He said just keep an eye on it, it will probably never go.  Even told me how big it was.

But when i go to the detist they always have a feel and they could tell me more about how deep it is.  I can sometimes feel it sometimes nothing.  Im more open to not jumping to conclusion.  A friend of mine had lymphoma and no symptoms it was only diagnosed on a routine blood test.

Its eay to say dont worry  but i know exactly how you feel x

  • Thanks for getting back to me x I have an appointment at ent In a weeks time so just trying not to over think to much

I think the one thing that scared me was the doctor mentioning cancer and biopsie she even called me last night to go over my bloods and checking I had an appointment set up for ent

Originally I was referred routinely but once she got my bloods back she wasn't happy and changed it to an urgent one x

  • Hi,

Cancer is such a scary word, but the diagnisis could be different but want to rule it out.  Im glad your seeing the doctor soon.  Unfortunately that week feels like a month.  Do you know if its just a consultation or results?

  • I'm going to ent next week for the first time and them will see what test they want to but my doctor is currently chasing my chest x-ray results and does feel it nessasery to repeat bloods atm as a lot of my bloods come back abnormal x

  • Hi,   i spik

e to a friend of mine, who had abnormal blood plus a tiny lump on her collarbone.  She was referred urgently and it was her thyroid.  The lump was  non cancerous but had to have half her thyrod remove.  Never been a problem since.  She did have a chest x ray but that was routine for ent.

  • Had my ent appointment today he's never asked any questions other than how long I have had it, also wasn't aware I have had blood tested checking everything.( elevated white count and high crp and something else elevated)

Stuck a camera down my nose everything looks fine but he's concerned about my neck so referred me for an urgent ultrasound and then discuss what happens next regarding doing a biopsy.

Good new though that my chest x-ray was clear

I'm just concerned about all my symptoms which he showed no interested in discussing..

  • Hi,

Firstly, good news about your chest x ray.  I don't think doctors say too much at the beginning as it may not be the dreaded C but we want to know the answers to everything.  As i went private it was so different he asked me everything and went throu everything there and then.  I went with my friend and she had a totally different experience, he was lovely but only gave her the minimal amount of information.  Maybe its because until they have a definate answer they dont want you to worry (which is not possible)!

I went with my friend when she had a biopsy and thats when she discovered the nodules in her thyroid.  They turned out to be non-cancerous.  At the biopsy she was told they were nodules and it was two weeks later she had an op to remove them, 1 week later she got her answers.

How long do you have to wait for the biopsy?

  • They haven't decided if I'm 100% having one they said they will see what the ultrasound results are and then make a decision x
