Hello everyone.

I am 58 years old and had my last period when I was 56.  Started having bleeding 10'days ago and thought that hey would stop but it is increasing, with very red fresh blood and clots (sorry to be graphic!)

I contacted my doctor who referred me straight away and I have an appointment next week for a hysteroscopy.

i am so frightened and although these posts are good, reading them is making me wonder how many women are diagnosed wit cancer as it's only suppose to be about ten per cent.

glad everyone is ok and hope that my outcome is as good .

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you are so worried about your forthcoming hysteroscopy. I am a breast cancer lady and, don't know what the figures are for other cancers. For breast cancer the figure is 1 in 8, so 10% seems pretty accurate. Hopefully, someone else will come along soon to confirm this.

Waiting for tests and then waiting for the results of these tests is always a scary time. Most of us feel that this is one of the worst times of our cancer journey. I sincerely hope that all goes well next week and that  your outcome is good.

Hi I'm sorry to hear that you are awaiting tests and results . I can only tell you my story so hope that helps . This happened to me last year I started to heavy bleed with clots etc so went to see doc . Was referred straight away to hospital where I  got hydroscopy and  biopsies done . The waiting on the biopsies was the hardest times and of course all sort of things went through my mind we are only human . The doc did say about 10 percent are diagnosed with cancer but he Dod also say you are in your 50's and most people are older when diagnosed with this after bleeding i obviously still worried as I had not had a period for three years then all this bleeding . I went to see doc to get my results a week later I was lucky enough To go private and he  told me all biopsies were fine so no cancer . I asked why it happened and he said it was one of these things sometimes the body has a surge of hormones the last surge and it can make you bleed again they don't why but it happens . I am thinking of you and please let me know how you get on here to talk anytime . Take care xx

so glad to hear that you were ok it is just such a worry. I think I am more worried because I feel I had an easy time with periods, unlike many others and just wonder if I've got a shock to come!

I can cope with some of the problems which it may be but cancer is so obviously the worry.  I o my have to wait until next week for the appointment but in these current times I hope that results are not delayed too much.

No problem I no it won't be easy for you as it will always be on your mind as it was on mine I thought about it all the time . My partner and daughter were great and they kept my spirits up that helped me as they were so positive . As I said any time you need a chat I am here to listen take care xx

I have found your posts very interesting and informative thank you. 
I am 58 and achieved menopause about 8 years ago but in mid July started a period. Called my GP the same day and was referred immediately as she said womb cancer needed to be ruled out. The hospital called that evening to book my scan for the following Monday. 
I hadn't heard anything so I called the Hospital on the Thursday to be told that the results had been sent to my GP. I then called the GP to be told by the receptionist that the results had been received and they would as the GP to either contact me. 
The receptionist called a couple of hours later to say that my blood test results were okay and that the GP has referred me to the gynaecology. 
Not long afterwards a hospital consultant called me to to ask if my GP had told me the results of my scan? To which I had to say no! She told me I need an urgent hysteroscopy as the lining of my womb was abnormally thickened (27.5mm) and this could be pre cancer or cancer so she needs a biopsy ASAP.  I have to say I was upset that my GP had my results but had not contacted me I had to call her and the fact that I got a brush off! Considering they are aware that I lost a sister to ovarian cancer in 2003! 
Anyway I had a very worrying time whilst waiting for the appointment. 
I had the hysteroscopy yesterday they found a huge polyp which they tried to remove but couldn't. It was a very uncomfortable experience but the staff were fantastic. They took biopsies of the lining and the polyp. Just waiting for the results now. 
This morning had to go back to the hospital as the polyp decided to remove itself. This too is being tested. 
I am extremely worried as reading some of the posts on here the lining of my womb does seem very thick - the closet I read was 19mm. 
I am in quite a bit of pain both tummy cramps and back pain.

What N awful painful thing to go through with no pain relief, I really feel for you.  I had a polyp removed from inside my cervix and 2 biopsies and fortunately I had gas and air through the procedures.  It was very painful with this so cant imagine what you must of gone through without. Sending you hugs x
