Neck lump

Hi All

I discovered a neck lump about 18 months ago and was so worried about it that I ended up going

on anti anxiety tablets as was convinced it was Cancer. It came out of the blue and I had no other symptoms. My GP was brilliant and fast tracked me to a head & Neck Consultant which I found so scary as he wanted urgent bloods and an MRI scan. Fortunately for me it turned out to be nothing more serious than a viral or bacterial infection that had caused the lump and inspite of that I have only recently been discharged from their Clinic after numerous follow ups to make sure it's nothing more serious. I can really sympathise with those of you going through what I did

and know I am one of the lucky ones but at the time it was horrendous and just to let you know if you read this not all neck lumps are sinister and with love & support you will get through this horrible period in your life.

  • Hi Libbylu1.

You're 100% right. Waiting for results is awful. I went through a couple of endoscopies, biopsies and MRI for a persistent sore throat around Xmas time, and the waiting was dreaful. Like you, I was given the all clear, but I found it still has taken me another month to calm down and for my blood pressure to return to a normal value (despite the megadoses of antihypertensive tablets that I take each day).

  • Hi I'm going through this right now....I'm terrified....had bloods done. Doctor phoned to tell me my white blood cells are a little bit raised. But everything else is ok. That's worried me massively and I told the doctor I'm incredibly anxious that I have cancer. I have a scan on my neck on weds eve and I'm petrified it's something sinister. The doctor said she didn't think it was anything bad but my mind is going crazy ️
