enlarged lymph nodes - worried!

Hi all! Sorry if this is slightly long to read.

I'm 21, and female. In november, I noticed one of my lymph nodes in my neck was enlarged, without any other signs of illness. Shortly after my groin swelled up, and then I noticed another in my neck was enlarged too. The groin 'swelling' seemed to go down, I occasionally worried about the ones in my neck, but didn't do anything about it. Since november, I have been getting increasingly tired, however this comes and goes. Some days I am fine, other days I am exhausted, and it is completely unrelated to how much sleep i've got! One in particular on my neck seemed to be growing larger, and I then noticed I could actually still feel the one in my groin. I've also seemed to have slightly tender side of my breast, on one particular side, which comes and goes too. I don't know if this is related.

I finally went to my GP on monday, and she examined me and found some more  - another in my neck, one above my collar bone, and another in the other side of my groin. So in total I have 6, that I know of. I'm also convinced another one has swelled up in my armpit since I saw her, but I don't know if this is stress related? The day it felt swollen, the side of my breast on that side was also tender to touch (the opposite to where it has previously been sore). I've also seemed to have developed a 'tight chest' feeling and a chesty cough when I breathe in deeply since seeing her, after she pressed down on my stomach and told me to inhale/exhale, but then again, maybe its always been there/ is stress related? I'm just noticing it now?
I had a chest x-ray this morning, have a CT scan on my neck in just under 2 weeks, and blood tests in about 3 weeks. I feel a bit confused to be honest, I know they're testing 'to rule out' cancer, but what does this actually mean? a specific type of cancer? any cancer? I don't really understand the stages of diagnosis, and how likely really is this to be cancer? I don't think I've had any significant weight loss, and I definitely have not had night sweats to the point I've drenched the sheets, i've woken up hotter than usual some nights but that could be a whole range of things.

I know lymphoma can cause enlarged lymph nodes - does anyone know if 6 palpable nodes is a bad sign? The one in my neck that I had originally noticed seems to feel quite hard and doesn't move, but my GP did say the ones in my groin area are movable and so that is more 'promising'. I'm trying to stay positive but the worry is really eating away at me, at a time where i'm trying to write my university dissertation too!

Any kind of insight/opinion would be really helpful/appreciated, its driving me crazy!

EDIT: I also had glandular fever 2 years ago, so we know it isn't this.

  • Hi All, just to update you. Had my enlarged stomach lymph nodes biopsy today. Procedure went well.

Two days before the biopsy i had further blood tests which were all good - White Blood Cell count was 5.8

    HB was  131 - Platelet was 275 - INR was 1.0 - UREA was 5.6 and Creatinine was 74

Previously Ultra Sound Scan of Testicles was negative, so was Pelvic and upper Chest Scams were clear.

Now just trying to be positive with the biopsy outcome though its stressfull waiting.

    Regards , ayub

  •

    Hi Ayub,

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to hear that all went well with your biopsy today. So far, your results sound encouraging. Did they tell you when your biopsy results would be back?

It is always stressful waiting for results. Try to keep yourself preoccupied with other things to help detract from the wait.

I sincerely hope that these don't show up anything untoward either. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • How are u know. I'm going through the same thing and I'm so anxious. How are you now?

  •

    Hi sophi,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear that you have enlarged lymph nodes too. Have you consulted your GP about these? Sometimes enlarged lymph nodes are just the bodies' reaction to a mild infection and they will gradually ettle down, but occasionally they can remain swollen. This can be worrying, but doesn't always indicate anything sinister, but it should be checked out.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Team,

Just to update you all, as previously mentioned I had my biopsy on 17 June.

I just had a call from the hospital to say a phone consultation has been booked with the Consultant on 13 July at 09 45am

Not sure if this is good news or not as if it was serious the consultant would have called me as a matter of urgency.

    What do the team think?

    Regards

    Ayub

  • Hey,

I feel like if it was something sinister they would've called you straight away. And due to the date being in around 11 days I have a feeling everything's good. But then due to this covid disruption everything could also be delayed.

what made you get the biopsy. Did the ultrasound suggest you needed one to be safe or was it your choice?

    Mellisa

  • Hi Mellisa, thank you for your response.

Intially i had MRI Scan to confirm i have kidney stones in both kidneys.

They did a second MRI Scan to determine the position of the kidney stones and it was during this dcan the consultant informed me I have enlarged nymph nodes.

They followed this up with various blood tests which were all clear.

I than had two MRI scans - Pelvic Scan and Upper Chest Scan - both clear

I also had Ulttasound Scan for testicular cancer - this was all clear

    No enlarged prostrate either.

As the lymoh nodes were still enlarged they suggested Biopsy to rule out anything sinister - as mentioned the biopsy was dobe on 17 June and i got a call today to confirm teleohone cobsultation to duscuss the result.

Not sure what to make of it (telephone consultation) - part of me thinks not serious otherwise it would have been the consultant calling me.

    Regards,

    Ayub

    Hi AP63,

Many thanks for the update. I am glad to hear that you don't have much longer to wait for your biopsy results and I sincerely hope that this turns out to be good news.

Please keep us updated after your telephone conversation.
My fingers are crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • Hi Team,

    Hope all is well.

Update to say I got call from the urologist consultant confirming diagnoses of Hodgkins Lymphoma

He informed my case will now be forwarded to the hematology department who will contact me to discuss the cancer diagnoses and treatment plan.

Atleast the wait is over and now i xan start concentrating fighting it.

    Regards,

    Ayub
