Dull aching in right leg

Hiya,

My name is Emma, im 18 and am getting concerned about pains in my right leg.

As I can recall, I've been getting the pain for about a year or so but it isn't constant, it comes about every couple of months or so. I started to think this might not be quite right last week when I got the pain again (it's like a really heavy, dull ache which feels deep, in my bone rather than muscular and resembles an intense sort of growing pain). It came on in the evening and continued into the night, keeping me awake until the early hours of the morning. It doesn't seem to be affected with movement, if anything it is worse when I'm still or laying in bed. The bulk of the pain was in my thigh nearish my knee but it radiated down my leg then a bit into my pelvis.

I'm hoping to book an appointment with the GP soon but fear they may just overlook it as muscluar or no important as it's not constant. But I'm getting pretty worried about it as there is no obvious reason for this pain at all, I haven't injured my leg and surely I'm past the age of growing pains now, equally I've always known growing pains to affect both legs rather than one.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help with suggestions or their own personal expereicences, thank you!

Emma

  • Hi, just came across this forum as I too have had a pain in my right leg for weeks I can't put my finger on where exactly the pain starts but it's my whole leg.

Sometimes if I'm sat down in the office when I get up the pain shoots down from my thigh to my calf and I have to limp a bit until it's gone, I also get pins and needles in my foot. In Aug this year I found a lump size of a pea on my inner thigh so went to my GP had a scan few weeks later the nurse said it feels like fatty tissue only and asked if I had knocked my leg before I couldn't recall anything and now I have this pain. I have made an appointment next week with my GP and wondered if they will do a blood test to test for anything cancerous?

    thanks for any advise xx

  • Hi, I'm 19 years Old and I just came across this page with similar problems to me, I have this ache in my right leg from the top of my things to the bottom of my shine, but mostly painful around my kneecap I had this since I think I was 9/10 and I use to think it's growing pains but I'm still getting it to this day.

i usually get it at night or when I have moved quite a bit during that day, the pain gets so bad that I collapse and I can't walk and nothing seems to help it go away, during those painful periods it gets worse when I sit still,

I'm too afraid to go the doctors but I want to get it sorted as it comes on and off occasionally but it is consistent.

Thank you for the advice x

    Hi Lani,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you are so concerned about your leg. Having had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 10 years, I know just how scary this can be. You really must go and see your GP to find out what is causing this. Have you had any other opinions from your GP in the past?

Hopefully, there is nothing sinister, but you need to start the ball rolling by seeing your GP.

Please let us know how you get on. We are all here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Fishnets,

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your symptoms.

Unfortunately, none of us on this site are doctors. We are all cancer patients or carersfor cancer patients, so we cannot answer your question about an MRI. You could contact the nurses on this site and have a chat to them and see what they recommend. Their number is 0808 800 4040 and they are available Mon-Fri from 9.00 to 5.00.

Have you seen an orthopaedic surgeon? It sounds as if this might be a good idea. I don't know how long ago you had your last MRI, but s/he will be able to refer you for another if they see a need.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

I too was Googling my symptoms and came across this forum. I am 54 and menopausal. I had both legs affected like this for ages and the only way I could get to sleep was to lie on my back - I find it really hard to sleep like this by the way. Since being on HRT it has got better but recently I have it back in my left leg. That deep, painful ache from hip down through the knee and and lower leg it's painful to massage/touch.

Thought it might have been my IT band as I used to run and am now unfit but pretty sure there's no reason for it. Just age and hormones. I would go to the doc but feel it's not really worth their time if it's nothing specific.

Such a pain though - pardon the pun.

    Hi Runningfool,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry that you have been hit with this problem with your legs too. Have you ever mentioned this to your GP. I am not a doctor, but I do know that there are various causes of leg pain. These can be due to circulation, nerve pain, arthritis, etc.

You certainly wouldn't be wasting your GP's time and, s/he might even be able to help you.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, I hope you are all enjoying 2020 so far... Like many of you I searched and found this forum,

I have been having leg pain for a long time now, I recently had a bit of a scare and had a non cancerous patch removed from my cervix, when this was removed my leg pain stopped for about 10 days and has now started up again.

My Drs are a nightmare but I will be trying every day to get an appointment and will update,

If anyone has any great pain relief tips that they can share that would be amazing.

Thank you for showing me that it's not normal age pains xx

  • I have also been experiencing these pains. It had been going on for around 3 years now. I was on the depo (progesterone only injection) and it caused vitamin d deficiency but I have been off it for 2 years. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I wasn't given a clear answer by doctors. The pains are deep and feel like growing pains but I am 19 and I'm sure I shouldn't be experiencing them anymore. I'm not sure what it could be, but it seems that there are a few people experiencing the same pain.
