Has anyone had a good biopsy result by appointment?

I have an appointment following a biopsy i had last week. Paranoid that bad news is delivered in person, im wondering if its routine to receive a follow up either way? Anyone received good news by follow up appointment as opposed to telephone?

Im super anxious.

  • Hi, I'm in exactly the same position as you. Had a mammogram, ultrasound and core needle biopsy on Thursday and had a call today asking me to see the consultant next Wednesday. Half of me thinks it's bad news hence the call for the appointment, and half of me thinks they wouldn't wait to see me until next week if it was bad news. I hate this waiting :(
  • I'm also in the same position - mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies all done last week. Was told 1-2 weeks for results. The radiographer (I think that's who carried out the biopsy) said that there is a chance that results would be given over the phone but not normally. I just hate this wait. I go though times of forgetting all about it then I get so freaked out thinking that I have cancer. I just wish I knew.

Good luck to you both. I hope you get the all clear.

  • Hi, I had a good biopsy result done on left breast after having breast cancer in the other breast, the results were given to me face to face by consultant and not by phone,so I wouldn,t worry.

  • It is good clinical practice to give results in person irrespective of whether the news is bad or good. Whatever the news, us patients have questions to ask "are you sure", "what happens next", "can I have a second opinion" etc.

To answer your specific question - several years ago I had a biopsy taken from my bowel during an endoscopy on Christmas Eve and was told I might have bowel Cancer as I had almost all the classic symptoms. I was given the good news face to face two weeks later. In 2013, I was given my bad news face to face after a biopsy was taken from my Oesophagus during an endoscopy - I had NONE of the classic Cancer symptoms!

    Good luck with your results!

  • Hi I was in the same boat I had all the tests done  last week I got the  relusts of the biopsy  all good I have an inflamed milk duct  never had kids can be very sore and tender in the lump area where the duct is  on antiimflamtrys also antibiotics to try and clear it please don't worry I pray all will be ok for you I have the inflamed milk duct for the last 6 weeks

  • I, too, have had good biopsy results in a face to face consultation.

Many consultants prefer to see you in person even if the biopsies are good news, because there may still be important information they need to give you, and you may want to ask follow up questions.  Also, it is not unusual for you to be sent an appointment BEFORE the biopsy results have come back from the path lab.

So, these are all good reasons not to panic that you've been given a face-to-face appointment.

  • I had a biopsy last week and was expecting results by letter. I got an NHS text asking me to come for an face-to-face appointment in 2 weeks. There was no other info or letter which really worried and frustrated me. After two days of calling I finally found out that I do have a simple form of skin cancer (BCC) and need it removed. That op will be done at next appointment so glad I checked! Just posting here as I found your responses really helpful yesterday when waiting to hear.

  • Hi libdrew and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad my posts have helped you.

BCC (Basal Cell Carcinoma) or "rodent ulcer" is very easily treated and recurrence is vanishingly rare.

  • Hi.

Does anyone know if it's normally gp or consultant that gives biopsy results. Consultant is saying ring Dr and Dr is saying the consultant has to give them to you. Both have the results yet I can't get them. TIA

  • Hi a read a few posts earlier and a saw there was a few good biopsy results think some doctors mabae prafare face to face am kind of scared a went for biopsy last week they said eight weeks result then a got letter two days later telling me to go following Monday half of me thinks must be bad news and other half thinks they wouldn't bother rushing if was really bad hope all goes well good luck hope you get all clear a just over think sometimes
