Could this be Bowel / Stomach Cancer

Hi all

In about December my stomach started playing up, i had one day of diarrhoea that did go quickly.  Anyways since then all day every day my stomach has been making loud and i mean loud gurgling / rumbling noises.  Everyone around me can hear them and its worse after i have eaten but they are there all the time.

Before Christmas i did go and see a GP (not mine as he was on Holiday) she was very dismissive and although she did a physical check of my stomach bascially sent me on my way and made me feel like i had waisted her time.

So on to today..the noises are still there louder than ever and show no sign of going away.  I am going to make an appointment with my GP but waiting times are about a week, I am 41 year old male by the way.

Could this be a sign i have bowel / Stomach Cancer? Dr google is freaking me out and i am conviced i now have that.

Thanks for any input

Chris

  • Do you vape by any chance?

    Abs..

  • Great thread!
I noticed blood in stools in May. Doctor telephone appointment said "leave it and see how you go". By august had a few more incidents but tried without success to get a doc appointment and then started to get blood when wiping and stomach pains on left side radiating to my back. So I rang 161 times one morning from 8am! After a telephone appt they called me in and examined me, ruling out piles.
Been referred as "urgent" / 2 week but so far only had a telephone consult who has booked me in for colonoscopy in another 3.5 weeks! Consultant was surprised I'd not had a stool test or any blood done in all the time I'd had symptoms and asked me to get bloods done...3 week wait not doing my stress levels any good! Managed to get a cancellation in another town so drove 90 mins to get bloods done...awaiting results.
Now in a lot of pain in left side and also my back. Get plenty of gurgling too but no relief. Started taking omeprazole but so far not settling anything. Have a high pain threshold (didn't go to hospital whilst in labour until I was 9cm!) but now paracetamol is my best friend!
Stools are very changeable although not noticed any blood in recent weeks...worry is now more related to the pain which gets worse through the day. Often feel a gnawing, dull pain, sometimes like hunger.
Praying it's nothing serious but very worried as I feel so rough.

  • How strange that I am having many of the same symptoms as you guys, I have had blood in my stool on abs off for around 18 months gp wasn't worried abs said most likely piles. And it did clear up
however over the last two weeks I have developed pain in my lower right side that feels like pressure/fullness squeezing it's something I haven't felt before, nausea, watery stools and constipation and lack of appetite as well as the intense gurgling burping and farting (tmi)

I have been to the out of hours gp and A&E and had 3 rounds of bloods all normal normal ultrasound and urine tests. I genuinely feel as though I'm losing my mind x

  • I know how you feel. Waiting for the colonoscopy whilst in a lot of pain is so stressful.
Did your doc do a rectal exam to check for piles? Unpleasant but necessary...mine did but no piles discovered.

My consultant asked me if I had done stool samples so perhaps you could ask your GP to do that? I haven't had any done yet but consultant decided to go straight for the colonoscopy.
Really hope you get some answers soon. Keep us posted!!

  • Happy to hear you are doing ok Luke.

    God bless

  • Hey group,

I was reading this thread as have had similar symptoms but didn't see any mention of something I have discovered in myself. I've always had tummy issues and gurgling, problems with gas, smelly wind, stools etc and my mum recently passed away with bowel cancer, so have been worried.

My symptoms also have involved bad belching and indigestion more recently. However, it all started with a nagging pain in my left middle side, as many people have described here. Had it for 2 years now and felt like something growing slowly inside me which made me think cancer. However, the pain does come and go also, which made me think maybe not cancer, and I couldn't feel a lump.

After pushing my GP, I've had numerous tests and stool samples. One of which was a test for the enzyme amalyse which I believe is released from the pancreas when eating and helps dissolve fats mainly. Turns out I have very low levels of this indicating high pancretic insufficiency, so now have to take CREON tablets with meals. I had noticed the pain in the left side was worse after eating very fatty foods and also alcohol, and the pancreas is in that area, so I think I have found my cause. Need to keep an eye on it though. Had a CT scan and all clear but will ask for more in future given family history.

So, I'd advise all with the nagging pain in left side and gas/wind/belching to ask for that amalyse pancreatic insufficieny stool test and also Helicobacter Pylori bacteria infection which can cause ulcers (and which I also had). This may be the cause of some your symptoms and not cancer, hopefully putting mind at rest.

Keep well people, and would love to know how you get on.

  • Hi Luke,

I hope you are doing well !

I was just reading  your post and it got me worried , latley I have grumbling noises all over my tummy , nausea and pain on the right side of abdomen. What got me worried is that i have more pain when I lye on my right side . Where about was your pain ? Close to the belly button or farther down to the right close to the flank ? How did your pain feel like ?

    Many thanks

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Hi I'm 29, and for the past 6 months I've had constant stomach rumbling sometimes for days then other times nothing for days! my stool can be unpredictable sometimes it's fine other times it's abit soft, I've had blood test ultrasound stool tests all are clear apart from my kidney function is lower then it should be, I've asked for a CT scan and colonoscopy but my GP says it's not necessary for my symptoms, I did find out I was lactose intolerant so I cut all dairy out but I still have the gurgling sounds in my stomach and it worries me and effects my mental health, just wondering if anyone else had these symptoms and managed to find out a cause for it?

  • Sorry for the late reply - I continue to be well.

Pain was just above and just to the right of my belly button, which I felt as a 'deep' pain when lying on my side at night.

The real give away should have been the persistently loose and frequent stools. The grumbling from my tummy could be very loud after eating and I learnt not to book business appointments 1st thing or just after lunch knowing that I would likely need the loo/be grumbling.

I don't recall nausea ever being an issue for me.

I hope your issues are diagnosed and resolved.

  • Hi adam,

Just wondering if the noisy stomach/gurgling ever went away as ive been having the same issue for just over a month now awaiting to see if i need the camera but had alot of tests without answers. Mine is like a feeling of gas bubbles popping withing my stomach and seems to be constant when lying on back. Does this sound similiar ?
