Could this be Bowel / Stomach Cancer

Hi all

In about December my stomach started playing up, i had one day of diarrhoea that did go quickly.  Anyways since then all day every day my stomach has been making loud and i mean loud gurgling / rumbling noises.  Everyone around me can hear them and its worse after i have eaten but they are there all the time.

Before Christmas i did go and see a GP (not mine as he was on Holiday) she was very dismissive and although she did a physical check of my stomach bascially sent me on my way and made me feel like i had waisted her time.

So on to today..the noises are still there louder than ever and show no sign of going away.  I am going to make an appointment with my GP but waiting times are about a week, I am 41 year old male by the way.

Could this be a sign i have bowel / Stomach Cancer? Dr google is freaking me out and i am conviced i now have that.

Thanks for any input

Chris

  • Hi,

I have a friend who had very similar symptoms to you, mainly trouble swallowing. His doctor suggested it might be a gluten intolerance. He's been on a gluten free diet for weeks now and his symptoms have completely resolved. Might be worth a try as you wait to see a doctor.

  • Hi johney

Your issues seem the same as mine... i started with this 6 weeks ago. paid for a gastroscopy all normal.. boods all normal.. pain in my stomach on and off all day and when i eat.. had stool change and weight loss... stool has blood in but could be piles ( had 3 kids) just had a CT scan today both investigations i paid for private.. awaiting a camera up the bottom and CT results... awful noises coming from my stomach all day long change in poo and smelly wind i fear the worst :(

  • This is the most informative thread I've read about these problems. In early September 2020 I had a pain my in lower abdomen whilst cooking dinner. Had to rush to the toilet for a bowel movement, which did provide relief. Unfortunately, my problems didn't end there. I started getting these loud rumblings/growlings from my stomach area and developed a pain in my upper right abdomen, which has been there ever since. Doctor ran blood and stool tests, all clear, but problems persisted and my appetite took a hit. Just didn't want to eat anything. Eventually, in January 2021 I had an ultrasound and upper endoscopy, all clear, although a doctor back in October at my surgery said he'd booked me for a colonoscopy. Another doctor has chased that up but I'm still waiting. I had a colonoscopy in September 2017 and a polyp was removed from my cecum and I was also diagnosed as having collagenous colitis. After that colonoscopy, which was done because of lower abdominal pain and diarrhea, I was fine for 3 years, when these new symptoms started. My bowel movements change from one day to the next, I get Headaches and odd numb feelings in arms, hands, feet and legs. Like everyone posting on here I'm extremely frustrated as well as quite worried. I wish everyone well and hope you all get the answers and treatment you need.

  • Hi I'm a 34 year old man I've been having problems since November it started with piles and a small amount of blood after going to the .I then noticed my upper abdomen started getting hard and swollen. Have had a colonoscopy and nothing was found. Recently had vision and hearing problems plus numbness and tingling in my arms, hand, legs, and feet.ive also been getting chest pain and pain in my thought but not all the time .Am waiting for a scan on my abdomen. Really scared all the time

  • Hi what was the outcome of this ? It's been a while since you posted I see. I'm having the same symptoms and am struggling for answers .

  • I would also like to know the outcome. I'm constantly losing breath, pain in my back, below shoulder blade next to spine. I've also suffered with stomach pain like pretty much everyone else on here, in fact exactly the same as most, but I've now just started with a metallic taste in my mouth. I've had a stool test and it was negative, but this isn't normal!! It's not normal to feel like this at all! It's near impossible to get a hold of the doctor and have been told to call the surgery at 8am every morning and basically if your the first person to answer, then you'll get an appointment, if not, then you'll just have to wait until one day your the first person to call!!

  • Hi,

42 year old female - on HRT, early menopause.

Like a lot of you, I too am experiencing worrying symptoms.

Back in April I started having the most strangest gurgling noises. They were loud - I mean really loud - and not the sound you would associate with the digestion of food. It was mostly at night and the left side of my abdomen near the belly button felt more hard and tender than the other side. I was also sore in the area above the belly button and the chest which was hard and tender to the touch. The doc prescribed me omeprazole, said it was all anxiety and reflux related. I have suffered with constipation a lot, more so the last couple of years when my periods started growing further and further apart. But it ramped up a gear during this time and gave me cause for concern. Suppositories cleared the back log and helped but lately it has been bothering me again. I have suffered with anal fissures the last couple of years and nearly every BM makes them bleed. It is always fresh blood when I wipe, so I think it is contained to the fissure and not from my stools. They have appeared darker at times but I put it down to taking 4 or 5 days to make an appearance.

My bowels died down a little but a couple of weeks ago, they started up again. Bloated, tender in the same areas. Awful gurgling noises. This time, I had left flank pain with it. Last week my stools changed too, went from solid masses to really constipated - small and pebble like. I went 3 times in one day, each a small amount. The doc prescribed me more omeprazole for reflux. 5 days in and nausea hit me in waves, with a constant uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. Went back to the docs, had full blood count. They came back normal, other than discovering I have the kidney function of a healthy 70 year old. No sign of inflammation. There was trace amount of blood on dipstick with the urine sample and lab test showed small amount of both white and red blood cells. More change this morning when after spending 40 minutes on the toilet trying to go, the small amount of stool was covered in yellow/orange mucus. A lot of it. This is new to me. I am still feeling nauseous on an off and bowel twinges. I am also struggling with fatigue. Going out for a walk or driving ruins me and makes me feel sick. I don't know whether this is IBS or something more sinister. I am desperate for someone to stick a camera in me and tell me.

  • Hi

i had a colonoscopy which came back totally clear and normal , I've tried all the diets such as gluten free , Dairy free etc but i still get stomache noises most days which are realy loud and embaresing . My doctor said it is anxiety so I'm on tablets for that which has also made no difference so I'm still no clearer as to what this could be after 6 months now . I had covid last November so possibly a side effect but that's just me clutching at straws to be honest .

  • I know how you feel. It's so frustrating, just not knowing what's going on, it's horrible! I've got myself booked in for more blood tests, hopefully something might come up and hopefully I'll be able to move on. I just want to find out what the problem is so I can move on!

I hope you get some answers soon

  • Thank you so much for your post.

I'm in exactly the same situation. I've had blood in my stool multiple times over the last few years, but as I am prone to having piles, this is what the doctor is putting it down to. It's horrible knowing that I have something wrong with me and not having a clue what it is. The hardest part is the doctor makes it out as there's nothing wrong with me and same as you, I'm told it's most likely IBS?! My stool changes from day to day and that worries me when it comes to stool samples! I believe I need to take a stool sample everyday for a week, this way they get to see it all.

I'd really appreciate it if you kept me in the loop as to how you get on and I will do the same.

Like you say, it's good to know we're not in it by ourselves! I've felt so alone up until now!

    Thank you

    Paul.
