Could this be Bowel / Stomach Cancer

Hi all

In about December my stomach started playing up, i had one day of diarrhoea that did go quickly.  Anyways since then all day every day my stomach has been making loud and i mean loud gurgling / rumbling noises.  Everyone around me can hear them and its worse after i have eaten but they are there all the time.

Before Christmas i did go and see a GP (not mine as he was on Holiday) she was very dismissive and although she did a physical check of my stomach bascially sent me on my way and made me feel like i had waisted her time.

So on to today..the noises are still there louder than ever and show no sign of going away.  I am going to make an appointment with my GP but waiting times are about a week, I am 41 year old male by the way.

Could this be a sign i have bowel / Stomach Cancer? Dr google is freaking me out and i am conviced i now have that.

Thanks for any input

Chris

  • Hi what was the outcome of this ? It's been a while since you posted I see. I'm having the same symptoms and am struggling for answers .

  • I would also like to know the outcome. I'm constantly losing breath, pain in my back, below shoulder blade next to spine. I've also suffered with stomach pain like pretty much everyone else on here, in fact exactly the same as most, but I've now just started with a metallic taste in my mouth. I've had a stool test and it was negative, but this isn't normal!! It's not normal to feel like this at all! It's near impossible to get a hold of the doctor and have been told to call the surgery at 8am every morning and basically if your the first person to answer, then you'll get an appointment, if not, then you'll just have to wait until one day your the first person to call!!

  • Hi

i had a colonoscopy which came back totally clear and normal , I've tried all the diets such as gluten free , Dairy free etc but i still get stomache noises most days which are realy loud and embaresing . My doctor said it is anxiety so I'm on tablets for that which has also made no difference so I'm still no clearer as to what this could be after 6 months now . I had covid last November so possibly a side effect but that's just me clutching at straws to be honest .

  • I know how you feel. It's so frustrating, just not knowing what's going on, it's horrible! I've got myself booked in for more blood tests, hopefully something might come up and hopefully I'll be able to move on. I just want to find out what the problem is so I can move on!

I hope you get some answers soon

  • Great thread!
I noticed blood in stools in May. Doctor telephone appointment said "leave it and see how you go". By august had a few more incidents but tried without success to get a doc appointment and then started to get blood when wiping and stomach pains on left side radiating to my back. So I rang 161 times one morning from 8am! After a telephone appt they called me in and examined me, ruling out piles.
Been referred as "urgent" / 2 week but so far only had a telephone consult who has booked me in for colonoscopy in another 3.5 weeks! Consultant was surprised I'd not had a stool test or any blood done in all the time I'd had symptoms and asked me to get bloods done...3 week wait not doing my stress levels any good! Managed to get a cancellation in another town so drove 90 mins to get bloods done...awaiting results.
Now in a lot of pain in left side and also my back. Get plenty of gurgling too but no relief. Started taking omeprazole but so far not settling anything. Have a high pain threshold (didn't go to hospital whilst in labour until I was 9cm!) but now paracetamol is my best friend!
Stools are very changeable although not noticed any blood in recent weeks...worry is now more related to the pain which gets worse through the day. Often feel a gnawing, dull pain, sometimes like hunger.
Praying it's nothing serious but very worried as I feel so rough.

  • How strange that I am having many of the same symptoms as you guys, I have had blood in my stool on abs off for around 18 months gp wasn't worried abs said most likely piles. And it did clear up
however over the last two weeks I have developed pain in my lower right side that feels like pressure/fullness squeezing it's something I haven't felt before, nausea, watery stools and constipation and lack of appetite as well as the intense gurgling burping and farting (tmi)

I have been to the out of hours gp and A&E and had 3 rounds of bloods all normal normal ultrasound and urine tests. I genuinely feel as though I'm losing my mind x

  • I know how you feel. Waiting for the colonoscopy whilst in a lot of pain is so stressful.
Did your doc do a rectal exam to check for piles? Unpleasant but necessary...mine did but no piles discovered.

My consultant asked me if I had done stool samples so perhaps you could ask your GP to do that? I haven't had any done yet but consultant decided to go straight for the colonoscopy.
Really hope you get some answers soon. Keep us posted!!

  • Hi I'm 29, and for the past 6 months I've had constant stomach rumbling sometimes for days then other times nothing for days! my stool can be unpredictable sometimes it's fine other times it's abit soft, I've had blood test ultrasound stool tests all are clear apart from my kidney function is lower then it should be, I've asked for a CT scan and colonoscopy but my GP says it's not necessary for my symptoms, I did find out I was lactose intolerant so I cut all dairy out but I still have the gurgling sounds in my stomach and it worries me and effects my mental health, just wondering if anyone else had these symptoms and managed to find out a cause for it?

  • Did this eventually clear up or did you find a solition as to what was going on ?

  • Hi nope I'm still having the same symptoms of tummy churning, gurgling , popping noises etc every day after I've eaten any kind of food . Had pretty much every test possible but all came back normal

  • Do you have any other symptoms ? Mine seems to be worse when lying down and after food. Is this the same for you ?

  • Basicaly I've tried avoiding dairy, lactose, gluten etc etc but nothing made any difference . After I eat any food the noises start and it's not just a normal tummy rumbling noise which everyone gets ( docs always say to me it's normal we all get this ) it's literaly constant for hours , when I'm walking about I don't notice it as much , but if I sit or lay down it begins and anyone in the room can hear it , so so embaresing .

  • This sounds very similar to mine. Would you say sometimes its like gas bubbles popping and sometimes its a grumbling sound ?? Im awaiting results of a ct scan have you had one of them ? I wouldnt say it was painful just feels very uncomfortable and distracts me from whatever im doing. Waking up in the morning it doesnt seem to be as bad but as soon as i eat something it starts is this the same for you ?

  • Sounds the same yes, it never hurts at all it's just the noises which are annoying . I've can a colonoscopy, endoscopy, bloods,  stool samples, I think I've had a ct scan too ( can't actualy remember as had so much lol ). All of them have been normal . Yeh I'm the mornings it's fine , it's like I can't digest food properly I think.

  • I really appreciate you talking about this as ive found it very hard to connect with anyone. Sorry for all the questions, do you have any other symptoms or have done ? Im guessing the doctors have said thats its IBS ? Of are you still without a diagnosis and was just wondering whats your plans are moving forward ?

  • It's fine it's good to talk about it . My toilet habits sometimes change but I think that's down to me worrying about what the worst case could be , the docs have said it's ibs, then they've said it's anxiety ( easy answer ) or just general noisy bowells , they have no idea tbh. I'm waiting on a barium swallow test and then a small bowell scan but I can't see these being done for at least another 6 months . NHS is awful these days tbf .

  • Yeah im exactly the same, have you ever had the odd stomach pain after eating its not common for me but has happened once or twice in last six months.I am really worried about the cameras as i think they are next for me how did you find these procedures (be honest lol). I do suffer from really aniexty and this is causing me to be very stressed

  • The odd tummy pain but I put that down to stesssing over it all. Colonoscopy is totally fine doesn't hurt at all, endoscopy is fine if u have sedation which I didn't so I made a big mistake there lol

  • Okay thank you, so in the 16 months it has never gone away once ? Did you not have both cameras on the same day or did you have to do them on seperate occasions. One last question then ill leave you alone lol has the issue progressed at all or been the same the whole time ? Once again thanks for responding
