Worried. I have testicular cancer, tender hard lump three years

Hello guys, first time poster! I'm from United Kingdom, hello once again.

Cut a long story short, three years ago I noticed a tiny hard lump on my right testicle. The size of a pinhead. In the space of three years, The lump has tripled in size. Around one month ago I have been getting bizarre symptoms. My right testicle is very tender to touch, I have complete loss of appetite, dull aching sensation in my lower back. And slight shortness of breath. Slight stinging sensation when passing water and Ejaculation. Please note I have received a number of ultrasounds over the space of three years and have a number of cysts in both epidermis... My concern is the lump on my right testicle was never detected in the ultrasounds.. Last year I did see a urologist and he did feel the lump, and confirmed it was on the surface of the testicle, he was under the impression it was a cyst. Although he did not do an ultrasound... I recently went to accident and emergency due to my pain and symptoms and now awaiting emergency ultrasound and emergency urology referral.. I have also had and urine sample taken which has come back clear.

I have a few questions. If anyone could answer...

Is it possible the ultrasound was unable to detect the lump because it was too small?

When a testicle is infected with cancer does the whole testicle show up as a solid mass?

If my next ultrasound is unable to detect the lump. What should I do?

Is it still possible to have a cancerous lump which is unable to be detected, even though the testicle looks completely normal on ultrasound?

I'm really concerned, because I have had the lump for three years now and only recently been getting these symptoms. I guess all I can do now is wait for the ultrasound and urology appointment, which is 2 or 3 weeks away

I recently had an ultrasound on my stomach because I damaged my abdominal muscle belly in a sporting injury, I don't suppose that would find any abnormalities in a stomach region with regards to the organs?

it's probably worth mentioning also, my left leg has been going completely numb on and off, for the past two days... I'm slightly concerned because I'm pretty sure it's connected towards the back pain... Some type of compression on the nerves?

Apologies for this poorly constructed message, I'm using a voice recognition program to control my PC because I have repetitive strain injury on both arms
. Thanks very much!!
  • Hi colt24 I have a Hard lump on the surface of my testis .The testis has become soft

  • Hi Billy,

I have a cyst which feels to be located on the surface of the testicle, in reality, this was actually within the epidermidis - the ultrasound confirmed this. Just for reference, initially the cyst started off like a pinhead and gradually got bigger, felt very hard to touch. Either way, It is very important that you seek medical advice ASAP when you find any lumps and bumps. For peace of mind, this is the only real option for you.

  • Hi Colt

Did your testicle get numb , red and swollen? My cyst feels like it is on between my testicle and epididymis

  • Hi Billy,

I also had an epidermidis infection which caused tender achy testicles (swollen too) however, I never encountered numb testicles that you are describing. I would seriously go to your local GP or perhaps your accident and emergency department as it could be a testicle torsion! As mentioned, there is simply no point waiting to see if symptoms get worse. Go and book an appointment ASAP or go to your local accident emergency Centre. Keep us posted!

  • Hi colt24

Can you give a specific location of your hard cyst

Cause I have a hard lump in between my epididymis and testicle. However when I touch it it feels like it is on the surface of my testicle

  • Hi Billy,

This was the same for me. Initially, I was convinced that the lump/cyst was on the surface of the testicle. My fingers didn't know better! However, the ultrasound confirmed the location and that it was indeed a cyst. Please, make sure you get seen by a doctor ASAP. Good luck!

  • Hi colt24 was your cyst located behind the testicle.

I feel like the cyst is inside my epididymis attached to my testicle.

My testicle had become red and tender.

I had an ultrasound , but the doctor said he couldn't detect any growth but inflammation on my right testicle.

  • Yes, I actually have one cyst within the epididymis, however, this was quite large and easily detected. Sometimes the cysts aren't always easily identified by ultrasound. My epidermidis was also tender to touch and slightly swollen. I would make a request for another ultrasound if you're worried? Ideally, you want to see someone in urology at your local hospital. Can't you ask to be referred?

  • never used this before, however i had a read and found that i could relate a bit. so about a year ago i found a small lump on my right testile so i went to the doctors they were sure it was a not attached and that it was a cyst. i then got an altra sound to confirm this. fast forward to now and i felt another lump that feels attached to the outside of testicle. it may well be the same one but i hadnt noticed it in a while and this is not attached. i also feel like i have swollen lymph nodes in my groin which i noticed a few days prior to the lump, however im not sure im if it is swollen lymph nodes and its only a few really small mini lumps. what has me the worst is the fact that my of of my chests feel different from the other not sure if that is lymph nodes, the only reason i think that it may be is because i seen a physio about a shoulder pain i have and i said my chest feels tight and she had a feel and she said that its just lymph nodes and never said much else. i may be way off topic with the lymph nodes especially the chest but i just wanted to share my experience so far and wonder if any of yous have any information. i am going to get a doctors appointment forst thing tomorrow as i learned last time that there is no point getting worked up until you see a doctor.

  • Hi Liam,

I also had swallon lymph nodes around my groin, however, I think this was due to my epididymis infection. Currently, I can feel small lumps within my groin and around my chest - probably fatty deposit. Some men can develop gynecomastia which can be painful lumps within the chest and armpits.

One of my cysts felt directly on testicle surface - turns out it was within the epidermis. Might be worth requesting another ultrasound for peace of mind.
