Possible Skin Cancer

Hello,  i am new to do this forum, thought i would come here to try and get other peoples experiences and perspectives.

For two years i had this small luml under the skin, back of knee, think its called the popliteal fossa. I found it whilst having a bath, i regret not goung doctors sooner, but life got in the way and i didnt do anything about it.

Anyway fast forward to around 4 months ago, the said lump had noe come out of skin, it protrudes, looks like a small nipple. I went to see my GP, she took photos and sent to dermatology for advice and guidance.

Less than 24 hours later had a phone call from doctor saying dermatolkgy dont know what it is and she has scheduled me under 2WW pathway. I am concerned it could be BCC or SCC, then another part of me thinks skin tag or something benign, my mind is doing cartwheels.

Is it possible for a derm to look at initial pictures and not know? I am having more pictures taken with specialist camera, think its a dermascope.

Any experiences?

  • Hi HelGenx76,

I'm very sorry to hear about this. What a horrible position for you to find yourself in. Waiting is never easy.

Regarding the lack of an initial diagnosis, yes, I do think it's possible the Dermatologists didn't know when they viewed the first photos. The further pictures you're due to have taken may be more detailed and will hopefully move things on for you.

Take care and very best wishes..

  • Thank you so much for reaching out, i hope youre keepimg well. Its a lonely time, so i appreciate you messaging me. I noticed on referral it says suspected BCC, i am trying not to worry xx

  • You're so welcome. We all need each other. That's why we're here.

Things must be very difficult for you, I'm sure. Referrals never make easy reading. After all, they've got to give a reason for the referral being made, which always causes worry. If you can find a way to keep yourself distracted, it's a great way to help time pass until you're seen. It usually works for me, anyway.

Take care and all the best.
