Breast lump

Hello. I went to the breast clinic in Manchester 4 weeks ago with a lump in my right breast the size of a grape that came out of nowhere. It moves and is sore. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound and on both the lump was not visible which they were happy it wasn't anything concerning so must be breast tissue or a cyst due to hormones. I have dense breasts also. I have also had many fibroadenomas in the past. Anyway they sent me home happy with results and referred back to doctors.

This was 4 weeks ago and today I was g8ven an appointment for 2 weeks time to see the consultant I was under as on the day he was not available so I saw a girl who works under him. I've never been asked to go back after any of my other appointments I'm assuming due to all of those doing biopsies. But if the results were all clear or they were happy with them why 4 weeks later would I be asked to go back. It has made me extremely worried he is going to say they got it wrong or want to do more tests which will mean it could actually be something bad.

Is this a normal thing or just depending on the person.

Im so worried

Thank you

  • Hi Blister,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that this appointment is causing you such anxiety. Our moderator Renata, is correct. In some of the busier hospitals, consultants don't always have time to inform patients of test results in person and have to rely on doing so by phone or letter. However, most surgeons prefer to discuss the results in person after any tests, and because yours was not present at your appointment, he may just want to dot the Is and cross the Ts. It is also possible that the doctor you saw was a registrar and, as the consultant bears overall responsibility for your case, he may want to ensure that nothing has been overlooked.

It is reassuring that nothing of concern was noticed at the time of your scans. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
