Suspected melanoma

Hi all 

I went to my gp for a mole that is a strange shape / colour . She referred me under two week wait . I saw the derm a week later and she’s referred me for an excision . She didn’t tell me any information and said she wouldn’t like to say . The excision is 3/4 weeks . Cancer wasn’t mentioned but I think she mentioned atypical mole in her write up. My anxiety is through the roof , I was hoping to get it off sooner . Is it normal for derms to not say much ? I am kicking myself as the mole changed colour and I should have gone in sooner. 

Any experiences welcome .

    An update : 

    After I saw the dermatologist , I waited about a month for excision. . Following excision I got my results after 5 weeks: atypical mole , no further treatment needed. The kind admin lady read this out to me , so it is worth phoning if you don’t hear . I have not received the letter yet . 


    My mole was brown and pink , a funny shape and had a big blood vessel . So I hope this can give reassurance to some that a strange looking mole does not always mean cancer . However , I would always advise getting checked out. I have many moles and will need to continue to check my skin .
