Post Menopausal Bleeding

Hi

Last night (Friday) I had some light brown discharge.  There is also slightly brighter brown/red when I insert my finger into my vagina (apologies if TMI!) but no further discharge as yet.  I’m 55 years old and it’s been over 3 years since my last period.  I’m terrified it’s cancer.  I spoke to the 111 service and she recommended I get a BV test kit, which indicated trichomoniasis which as I’ve not been sexually active suggests it’s not the most accurate result.  I will phone my GP on Monday but I’m already seeing a psychologist for health anxiety so this is my nightmare come true.

I live on my own, I don’t have anyone I can talk to (friends were never really my thing!) and my family have passed away over the last few years so I’m very isolated.  I just thought it might be helpful to reach out via this forum for connection.

Thank you for reading this.

  • Thanks very much Dollysocks . I will update later . Appointment not until 3.30pm .

How are you , have you been able to go out for walks ? Hope you had a lovely time with your family. Have you had any updates ?
    xxx

  • Im ok Cat-cat, do go walking and do odd cleaning, but tbh it knackers me so have to pace myself. Went for my B12 this morning nurse said wounds healing. Telephone appointment tomorrow think its the nurse following up. Anxiety setting in again as waiting for the pathology report dreading the worst and cant help it. Been tearful another waiting game im afraid. Yes please update us. Good luck x

  • Dollysocks , you have had a big op , so of course you need to pace yourself and expect it to take time . I think it must be even more difficult  for you to not be thinking of it , when you are still in the recovery phase and have constant reminders .

I was also a bit tearful last week too . As I get anxious by the waiting / not knowing . It is difficult .

Keep us updated and I hope you get some positive news tomorrow xxx

  • Thanks Cat-Cat. Im trying to focus on other things...  I really want a week away in a cottage to chill out in the middle of nowhere. Its been a rollercoaster. Fingers crossed for this afternoon. Xxxx

  • Hope you get your chance soon  Dollysocks to have a week to chill .

I have this next week , cottage , rural but with my  3 teenagers in tow - not much chill unfortunately . I will have my best friend staying for a few days , so not all bad .

Had my hospital appointment . I didn’t need a hysteroscopy. Had an internal scan and a biopsy . My lining measured 7.3mm . The nurse said that  she couldn’t see anything of concern . That at that thickness it could still be down to hrt . It will be about 4 weeks before I get my biopsy results and cancer can be ruled out completely .

  • I’m so sorry Dollysocks that you’re going through this - the uncertainty must be awful for you.  Do you have an idea of when the results should be back?  I really hope your conversation with the nurse tomorrow can provide some answers (or is it just a routine check in with you?).  Keep that cottage in sight for when all this is over and your body is healed xx

  • So pleased that you didn’t need a hysteroscopy and that the biopsy went ahead - I hope it wasn’t too painful.  The nurse feedback is very positive, which is really good and I hope has managed to calm your nerves a bit - I’ve never taken systematic HRT (I’ve bottled out of taking the estrogen cream for the time being as the list of side effects terrified me!) but I read that it can cause womb thickness so sounds like a likely suspect.  I really hope you manage to have a lovely break next week and have some well deserved rest (despite the teenagers!) xx

  • Lovely distraction Cat-cat. It sounds positive your appointment HRT does cause thickening of the lining doesn't it? From my various researching lol. Bit tired today over done it so will chill tomorrow. Once I get my results im going away. Have a chill out now Cat-cat nothing you can do until the results... X

  • Maebelle no idea of results. Will ask the nurse tomorrow. I think its a follow up as the enhanced nurses you have on call after surgery are for 2 weeks. Im getting there and really appreciate yours and Cat-cat's support even though we've never met its very comforting thank you x
