Post Menopausal Bleeding

Hi

Last night (Friday) I had some light brown discharge.  There is also slightly brighter brown/red when I insert my finger into my vagina (apologies if TMI!) but no further discharge as yet.  I’m 55 years old and it’s been over 3 years since my last period.  I’m terrified it’s cancer.  I spoke to the 111 service and she recommended I get a BV test kit, which indicated trichomoniasis which as I’ve not been sexually active suggests it’s not the most accurate result.  I will phone my GP on Monday but I’m already seeing a psychologist for health anxiety so this is my nightmare come true.

I live on my own, I don’t have anyone I can talk to (friends were never really my thing!) and my family have passed away over the last few years so I’m very isolated.  I just thought it might be helpful to reach out via this forum for connection.

Thank you for reading this.

  • Hi Dollysocks / Maebelle ,

Thanks both for checking in with me - so kind to be thinking of me . I have had a bad cold since Saturday and I am really fatigued .

The GPs appointment was to discuss further steps after the abdominal scan on 10 June . Things have obviously moved on since then,  as I got the urgent call from my GP and then the urgent referral . I decided that it probably wasn’t great to go as wasn’t feeling great and would also perhaps pass on the lurgy to others . I am able to cancel my GPs appointment via my mobile phone,  so just did that last night .
if I hadn’t been feeling so awful I probably would have gone along and just asked a few questions . xxx

  • Best to keep away. Go when you feel better. Wishing you well xxxx

  • Tbh I was feeling a stinging sensation down below when urinating and an urgency to go. Rang drs Sunday as thought it was a UTI she perscribed antibiotics straight away. As soon as I started them it worked so now on them. Better to be safe. I researched that this is possible after a hysterectomy. Apart from that im up pottering about as and when. Thank you for asking xxxx

  • So pleased the antibiotics worked and that you’re hopefully feeling more comfortable xx

  • So sorry you’re feeling poorly - for some reason I think a cold feels even worse when you get it in the summer (especially during a heatwave!).  Hope you start feeling better soon xx

  • Maebelle , Good luck for tomorrow . Will be thinking of you xxx

  • Morning Maebelle. Remember one step at a time and be brave. You're gonna be ok and nearer to finding out what's going on. Best of luck today my lovely. Xxxx

  • Thank you both so much for your best wishes messages.  I wasn’t able to have the vaginal ultrasound due to my vagina being too small ( apologies for the TMI) but she was able to insert a speculum and view internally and carry out a stomach scan.  She has diagnosed vaginal atrophy (hence the narrow vagina).  My womb lining was 2.9 mm and ovaries looked good.  She has prescribed oestrogen cream to help the atrophy.

Thank you both so much for all your support-I genuinely wouldn’t have been able to get through these past few weeks without it.  I can’t thank you enough xxx

  • Yah that's fantastic news...... Im so pleased for you Maebelle. It's something that can be controlled. You can sigh a sign of relief. Now chill treat yourself. Tea and a digestive biscuit maybe? Lots of love xxxx

  • Maebelle , that is brilliant news . That is really the best outcome that you could have . I have been prescribed the oestrogen cream  previously and it is very easy to use and can make a difference relatively quickly .

I am glad that you were able to get the reassurance that it is a  treatable issue . I hope that you get the chance to do something nice today to celebrate the good news .

Without sounding like a total cliche,  I hope that you embrace the chance to celebrate making the most out of life . Do what makes you happy . Take care xxx
