Hysteroscopy

Hi. I’m 60 and 8 years post menopause.Went to docs yesterday with spotting, bad pelvic pain and urinary changes and been referred for an ultrasound and hysteroscopy in 10 days. Remaining optimistic as I know it’s more likely not to be cancer but really scared of the hysteroscopy. I find smears painful and had a colposcopy a couple of years ago which was excruciating. I don’t want to make a fuss but will I be able to get any pain relief if it’s bad

  • Hi there they do give you pain relief by injection if you need it ,I actually did need it as they were taking biopsies ,also ask if they can use a smaller speculum when they first start ,I must say though they are so good at helping you get through it ,they couldn't have done more ,I hope everything goes well for you .....

  • Thanks for the reply. I think it’s me really. I feel like I should just grin and bear it when they probably don’t mind if I ask for some pain relief, I always feel like I shouldn’t make a fuss

  • I don't think you'll have to ask ,from my experience they will ask you ,or tell you you they are giving it to you , there's absolutely no need to suffer ,its a big deal having a hysteroscopy ,I remember it well lol ,the good thing is they should be able to give you and idea if they see anything sinister or if everything looks ok ...
