Call back 24 hours after mammogram

Hi everyone. I was referred by my GP to the breast clinic with intermittent breast pain and an inverted nipple. I had my mammogram yesterday, afterwards I was told I'd receive the results and a follow up appointment in a week or two. They phoned me this morning to ask me to come back in Wednesday to see a consultant.

Just wondering what other people's experiences were as in my experience asking me to come back so quickly usually means they have seen something and want to investigate.

  • Hi Jolamine

No date for the CT yet unfortunately. The naughty treats are going down lovely. I've been on bed rest since I got home. No one will let me out.

Thank you for checking in ️

  • It's not great news I'm afraid, so far they've said it's a grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma that has spread to my lymph nodes. My CT has shown spots on my liver which they need to clarify. I'm seeing her again next week but they'll be starting chemotherapy. Which type will depend on the CT final report

  • Hi Birdy83 sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  Good luck for your appointment next week, hopefully the spots on the liver are not something sinister.  Are you taking someone with you next week.?

  • Thank you. Yes I'll be taking someone.

  • Hi Birdy,

I'm sure that this was not the news you wanted! How are you bearing up? Thinks will get a little easier for you once you know what type of chemo you'll be having and how many sessions will be involved. Are you having any further tests on your liver.

I sincerely hope that all goes well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I'm actually doing ok. First day was tough. They're not planning on any further tests just someone more specialised to look at the CT. I've been keeping busy,  mainly buying things i think I will need in the coming months. I'm also on a career break atm. I left my job 4 weeks ago. I was planning on a couple of months off before taking a new job. So I've been looking into financial help I can get.

  • Hi Birdy,

I'm glad to hear this. It takes a while for it all to sink in so you can expect a mixture of feelings along the way. I'm glad to hear that you'll be taking someone with you to your next appointment and hope that the more specialised person can clarify the results of your CT scan.

Its good to hear that you are keeping yourself busy, as this is the best way to cope just now - it doesn't matter whether it is business or pleasure.

There are a number of organisations that can help you with looking into financial help. Are you near a Maggie's Centre, they offer this service. Macmillan benefits advisers can also help you determine what financial help you may be entitled to, including benefits, tax credits, and grants.

Keep in touch and I hope that you get the clarification you need next week.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
