Breast clinic appointment - have received a letter for a follow up with a consultant. Is this normal when all tests were clear?

Hi all,

I attended the breast clinic in the last few weeks as I have a puckered area on my right breast. The doctor could feel a thickened area on examination, but my mammogram and ultrasound were all clear so I was discharged

I have received a letter today for breast clinic follow up with the consultant. Is it normal to be followed up when all test were previously clear at the one stop clinic?

  • Hi CrazyCatLady85,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear that your tests were clear.

I'm not sure exactly how common this is in this specific scenario, but it's normal to have an opportunity to discuss results, even if they are clear. The consultant will be able to explain things and it will be a chance for you to ask any questions you may have. Do write these down ahead of the appointment if there is anything you can think of.

If you feel you'd like to talk things through with someone ahead of your appointment at all, you are welcome to give our nurses a call. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5 (please note the helpline is closed on Tuesday 12th May).

    Best wishes,

    Ben
