Worried - new bleed after no period for 18 months

Hi all. I'm 36 and have not had a period in just under 18 months. Yesterday I started passing black clots and my urine is red. I know these are not very good signs. I'm worried about going to the GP in case they give me bad news. I have 2 young children and I admit since having them I have missed a few smear tests as I don't have the childcare and I work most days and my employer does not give time off for appointments and I have no AL left.

I think what I'm trying to say is. Although my thoughts are turning to the dark side it could be something completely normal. Am I over reacting?

  • Hello Princess.peach and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I think it's really important as you passed dark clots and you hadn't had your period for 18 months that you go and see the GP as this is something they need to know about so that they can tell you what might have caused this and do further investigations if they think it is necessary. I know it's really difficult sometimes to take that step to go and see the GP but not doing anything will only make you more anxious and it's important to bring this up with your doctor. Make sure you mention that you have missed a few smear tests as it's important that they know this.

Try if you can not to anticipate what it might be and there are many things it could be other than cancer but it's really important to get a diagnosis and that only the doctor will be able to give you. The best thing to do really is to book an appointment as soon as possible to see a GP and to give them all the details about your symptoms, the fact you haven't had a period for 18 months as well as any other relevant information like the fact you have missed a few smear tests.

I hope that you manage to get an appointment soon and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. Other members of our community may have been through something similar and I hope that they will be along to say hello and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
