Breast biopsy results appointment - due to speak with the consultant on Tuesday. I'm so anxious waiting for the results

I was referred to the breast clinic by my GP after noticing dimpling and a lump in my right breast. I was seen on the 5th February and was sent for a mammogram, and ultrasound which was followed by a biopsy (9 samples in total) the consultant who did the ultrasound and biopsy did say that it appeared suspicious when I asked if she could tell anything from the scan. She also asked that I had a breast MRI within 7 days. The results are now back and were being discussed in today's meeting, I received a call this afternoon to attend a face to face follow up with the consultant on Tuesday. I'm so anxious waiting for the results, is it a good sign that they don't want to see me sooner than Tuesday? Would they tell me over the phone if it was good news? I've spoken to a few people and none of them were sent for an MRI at this stage, should I be more worried that this is a bad sign? I've gone down the rabbit hole that is google and I'm just looking for reassurance or advice from people in the same boat or going through the same thing x

  • Hi MabelJ1983.  The waiting is the worst bit of all as your head is all over the place.  Google is not a good thing because a lot of information is out of date and inaccurate.  I also had a MRI.  You have to try and keep busy until Tuesday.  I found the days okay but the nights is when my mind goes into overdrive.    You can't second guess if it is a good or bad thing.  When you go on Tuesday, take someone with you.  The nurses on here are also very helpful if you want to phone them and talk it through.  I am thinking of you and please let me know how you get on on Tuesday.  Big hugs.

  • Thank you for replying, I'm going to keep myself busy as much as possible till Tuesday. I'll keep you updated with the results xx

  • Hi Mabel

I had breast cancer in 2022

at my appointment I was told it looked suspicious, my result was breast cancer

however lots of people get told this and results come back clear .
to be honest the worrying wait was worse than actually having the diagnosis when I actually knew I sort of relaxed as the fear was worse the operation and treatment went well .

good luck big hugs Lara x

  • It can differ from place to place. I know they won’t usually give any information over the phone either good or bad. I had 2 ultrasounds and was told it was nothing to worry about before I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021.
The waiting is the worst part. As others say it’s a case of just trying to keep as busy as possible. It’s completely normal to worry but hopefully the time goes quickly. Good luck with the appointment on Tuesday.
