Face to Face breast and lymph node biopsy result appointment.

I know I can’t do anything about what is going on until I know the results… but that doesn’t stop me from worrying.

I attended the one stop clinic and the result was biopsy of lesion and lymph node. I sat down with consultant before I left and they said it was 50/50 and I’d most likely get a phone call or letter.

letter was then sent to GP that said: asymmetry in the right upper outer quadrant with slight distortion and ultrasound right breast showed 11 x 6mm lesion and solitary lymph node in right axilla. Therefore core
biopsy for right lateral breast lesion and axillary biopsy was done today and will be discussed in MDM.

Thursday I received notification on my NHS app that I have a face to face appointment on Tuesday.

I hate the wait and just wish they would tell me the results over the phone and say they will explain in full at the face to face.

Has anyone else experienced this?

TIA

  • Hi UltraTrailRunner and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

Knowing the outcome could be 50/50 must be making this so difficult, but I'm glad the wait is finally over and I hope all goes well with your appointment today.

If you have any questions before or after your appointment, you can speak to one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to help.

In the meantime, we're sending you all our support UltraTrailRunner and will have our fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi UltraTrailRunner I just wanted to say good luck for today.  Please let us know how you get on.

  • Thank you.
I had a call with the breast cancer nurse yesterday as I wanted to prepare myself.
She initially checked that I knew what I was being tested for. She said I was tested for malignancy (I knew that) and that the results are showing it’s abnormal. She explained I will get to go through it today with the consultant. She explained it’s a long complex report. I asked if a breast cancer nurse would be in the room with me when I get my results and she said they would and I’d get to sit down with them afterwards.
I said - that sort of confirms it then doesn’t it. And she agreed.
I’m glad I know now, so today I can attend with a list of questions - as I would have thought it would have been a waste of time to do that.
I really wasn’t expecting it as I just assumed it was a cyst.
So here goes the next few hours preparing questions.. feel a bit lost today.
Any advice with questions for today would be great

    TIA

  • Yes I sort of knew when I went to the consultant so was a bit more prepared.  I would say definitely take someone with you and also if you ask permission you are able to record the interview.  I never remembered half of what was said and my husband remembered a lot more than me.  All as I wanted to know is what treatment I was having and when?  When I knew the treatment plan, I felt a lot better and just wanted to get on with it and get the cancer out.  We went into a room with a nurse after we saw the consultant and she answered a lot of questions and gave us lots of information which was helpful.  I had lumpectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and then tamoxifen/letrazole.    I didn't take any questions with me as like you I felt lost and just didn't know what to expect.  Please keep in touch and let me know how you get on today.  Sorry I can't be much help.  Big hugs.
