Male with lump behind right nipple

Hi, I am male and 47 years old, around 18 stone and have had moobs for many years. In recent weeks my right nipple has been reasonably sore, not extreme pain but more an uncomfortable pain. There feels like a hard lump behind and around nipple and is sore to touch. However when lying down or lifting my arm the lump seems to vanish and the area is not sore to touch. Nipple gets hard on a more regular basis compared to before aswell, sometimes feels like a sharp glass feeling. Standing up straight and sitting straight is when it's at it's worst, lying down or arm lifted feels normal. I'm freaking out scared and embarrassed to go to doctor. Can anyone tell me what their breast lump felt like or any symptoms associated with it. Thanks

  • Hi William1978,

A very warm welcome to our forum. Thank you for coming here and sharing your story and I hope that you will hear from others on here who have had a similar breast lump and the same symptoms you describe. Unfortunately though no one on here will be able to tell you what it might be. It is normal to be worried but I think it is important that you go and see the doctor. Try not to be embarrassed as there is nothing to be embarrassed about - this happens to many other men and doctors will be used to it and it will be the only way for you to have peace of mind and treatment if you need it. Make sure you mention to the doctor everything you have listed here, the sore right nipple and that sharp glass feeling you describe. You can also mention the fact that it's at its worst when you stand up and sit up straight.

If I were you I would ring your surgery tomorrow and ask to have an appointment for a check up. I know it may not be an easy thing to do if you are embarrassed or scared but it's definitely the right thing to do. If that makes you feel better, you can request to see a particular doctor that you feel comfortable with or you can also specify for example if you'd rather speak to a male doctor for example, anything really that makes you feel better about taking the important step to go and get checked out.

I hope you get some reassurance soon after your lump is checked by a medical expert and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
