If it's any reassurance, when I was 40, I had rectal bleeding regularly for months, some weight loss, trapped wind and loose stools maybe once a week and the doctor said he would be concerned if my mother came with those symptoms but that at my age, the risk of cancer was "less than 1%". It turned out to be piles, probably combined with the effects of my thyroid medication and maybe the stress of the whole thing.

A positive FIT test can be caused by many things - polyps, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's, diverticulitis, an infection, etc - and at your age, cancer is probably one of the less likely options.
