High Risk HPV and Low-grade Dyskaryosis

For past 2 years I have bled after intercourse, the first times were very heavy and bright red but then sometimes would be light pink very light upon wiping. I have been back and forth to aak for colposcopys but because my previous 3 years smear was normal a biopsy was never entertain, I have had many ultrasounds all that were unremarkable just a polyp possibly present.

i had my 3 years smear a couple of weeks back and yesterday came back with high risk hpv and low grade dyskaryosis. Im so devastated. Im finding myself go down rabbit hole of dr google and scaring myself.

on top of that i have had on going progressively worsening lower back pain, leg pain, left abdominal pain and frequently wake up during the night to pee. My buttocks pain is becoming unbearable. Im 30 and just scared that this is something worse than just HPV.

I did previously have PID due to the coil which went undiscovered for a year before it was treated during this time is when i had the bright red heavy bleeding during/ after sex which i put down to that.

Has anyone else went through anything similar that turned out to be okay? Sorry its just hard because its Christmas and i wont get my colposcopy until January now so just seeking some help, guidance and hopefully reassurance.

Thank you x

  • Hello Worrier123

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had HPV with low-grade cell changes from your recent cervical screening. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this might mean for you, particularly as you've had some ongoing health concerns.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting for further tests and answers can be really difficult. Often, people will turn to the internet looking for reassurance but what most often happens is that they are left feeling more anxious. If you do want to try to read about HPV with cell changes, stick to reputable science-based sites, which will hopefully give you some reassurance. We have some information about cervical screening results on our website.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses, they will be back in the office on Monday next week. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays).

Hopefully, when you see the specialists at your appointment, they will be able to give you some reassurance.

Keep in touch Worrier123 if it helps to have a safe space to put down in writing how you're feeling. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
