Likely that my son will be diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age 21. Has anyone else been through this at such a young age?

My son is facing the possibility of testicular cancer. Hes had the orchiectomy which went well and is waiting for results this week. He had a clear ct scan and no blood markers were raised. He really doesnt want chemo, hes worried about the risks later on and the possibility of further chemo not being so effective. We really want to hear about people who have also been through this at a young age and any long term effects as he has his whole life ahead of him.

  • Hi,

I hope this perspective helps and I'm sorry you're going through the same situation. I was in a slightly different situation but diagnosed at age 20. I had an orchiectomy and as my cancer had spread to my lymph nodes I had to undergo 3 rounds of BEP chemo.

I just wanted to let you know I am now 40 (It's the 20th anniversary of my orchiectomy this month), married with two children conceived naturally (although I did freeze some sperm that I didn't need). Chemo hasn't had any noticable impact on my body (as far as I can tell) and I currently still have good health (touchwood). Good luck with everything

  • Thank you for that. Im glad the treatment was successful and you havent had any negative side effects. It is really reassuring.

My son met the urologist this week and hes been diagnosed with seronoma with no lymphatic invasion. So we are really hopeful that he may not even need further trestment  He will see the oncolgist next month. We are all relieved and thankful it was caught so early.
