Likely that my son will be diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age 21. Has anyone else been through this at such a young age?

My son is facing the possibility of testicular cancer. Hes had the orchiectomy which went well and is waiting for results this week. He had a clear ct scan and no blood markers were raised. He really doesnt want chemo, hes worried about the risks later on and the possibility of further chemo not being so effective. We really want to hear about people who have also been through this at a young age and any long term effects as he has his whole life ahead of him.

  • Hi Sorrel1,

I am so sorry to hear that your son is facing the possibility of testicular cancer at such a young age. It must be a worrying time for you and I am glad that the orchiectomy went well and I hope that you get the results very soon. It's very good news that he had a clear CT scan and no blood markers were raised. I think it's all a bit of a waiting game at the moment and it's best perhaps to wait until he gets the full picture before making definite decisions about the treatment.  Talking to the specialist once the results have come through will also help weigh all the pros and cons and find the most suitable treatment for him. Waiting for results is nerve-racking and I thought I would also share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news

I also wanted to mention another member I spotted recently on the forum   who is only 33 but has been diagnosed with testicular cancer for a second time so the first occurrence must have been at an even earlier age. Feel free to read their thread on their testicular cancer experience and don't hesitate to reply if you wish to do so.

I hope that everything turns out fine for your son - he is in the best possible hands and I hope you get some clarity and the full results soon. We also have a nurse helpline you can ring if you would like to discuss anything or if you simply would like to talk things through. The free number  to ring is 0808 800 4040 and it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
