Tongue biopsy results in person normal?

Hi.

I had a tongue biopsy due to a white patch on my tongue that's been there a long time. Doctors kept saying it's from myp tooth rubbing.

Eventually I went to the dentists who said it was most likely Leukoplakia and did not look sinisterm they would refer me to the dental hospital 100% rule it out.

I went to the appointment and the consultant reiterated that it did not look sinister and to not lose sleep over it.

He referred me for a biopsy 2.5 weeks ago.

I just received a call asking me to go back to the hospital to see the consultant.

Is this normal even if the biopsy came back negative for cancer?

The other worrying factor is the receptionist said that there would be 2 clinicians there. Again is this normal?

I am terrified and feel sick with worry.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing concerns about a patch on your tongue. It's understandable that you've been feeling anxious about what this might have been.

There is no hard and fast rule about how results are communicated to patients. It may be that the consultant wants to check that things are healing properly and this is why they've asked to see you. It could be, for example, that there is another doctor or health professional training with the specialist at the moment, which is why there will be two clinicians present at your appointment.

If it would help to chat through your concerns with one of our nurses, you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
