DCIS grade 3 HER+++ Positive with close margins after mastectomy in 2013. I've now found a hard lump under my mastectomy scar. Has anyone else had this happen?

I was diagnosed in 2013 with DCIS high grade 3, HER Positive +++ I undertook a mastectomy same year (close margins), and was prescribed tamoxifen but after 5 months was discontinued due to painful side effects.

Have recently discovered a hard lump (not painful) just under mastectomy scar November 2025. Anyone else experienced this? Also I have had a persistent cough for the past 6+ months and feeling so tired even after doing small chores.

Saw breast consultant last Friday 28/11/25 unfortunately there was no qualified radiologist to perform a scan or biopsy and now have to wait until the 9/12/25

Any advise will be extremely appreciated.

  • Hi Untamedwolf66,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you've had this checked out although it is a shame that you are having to wait longer than expected. I hope you're getting on as OK as can be - I know the uncertainty can be difficult and it's never easy waiting for appointments and answers.

I wanted to send a reply to your post to give it a little boost, so a few more people should see it and hopefully you'll get more replies - particularly if others with similar experience see it.

From the homepage of the forum you can also use the search bar to find other relevant discussions and people to connect with, if you'd like to.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thank you Ben, I have an ultrasound booked in for Tuesday 9/12/2025 and I’m not sure what to expect? I suffer highly from anxiety issues and at the moment I am struggling big time, my family and friends are a big support but I just feel so alone, (even though I am definitely not) I will definitely keep you updated on my ultrasound and any other tests that I may need.
your support means so much to me, thank you.

  • Hi Gill,

I understand it can sometimes be difficult to speak to those around you, and so hopefully this forum can be a safe space to reach out to others whenever you want to.

In terms of your appointment, you may want to have a chat with one of our nurses to ask any questions you may have. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope things go OK with the appointment.

    Best wishes,

    Ben
