Paraspinal Lesions

Hello everyone. I have chronic pain in my thoracic spine, just below my bra line. The pain is on the right side of my spine, and pressing over the area can cause a shooting sensation. I mostly feel the pain at night; during the day it’s less noticeable. Sometimes the pain radiates to the flank, and I also experience random bone pain all over my body. Additional symptoms include fatigue and weight loss. I had an MRI of my spine and upper abdomen.

The results noted a few bulging discs and mentioned ill-defined paravertebral lesions in my mid to lower back. All the organs were reported as normal. Ct chest scan was advised.

My questions are: Should I be worried about these lesions? Has anyone had something similar?

Thank you.

  • Hello AUGU and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

Poor you having to deal with this chronic pain in your thoracic spine combined with fatigue and weight loss. It's good that they are taking this seriously though and that they are being thorough and have given you an MRI of your spine and upper abdomen.

I am not sure myself what these lesions might mean and I hope that you can discuss these results with someone - perhaps it might be worth getting in touch with your GP just to try and understand better what this means and what the next steps might be. I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your CT chest scan and that you get some definite answers soon. Waiting for tests and results and also for the interpretation of these results can be nerve-racking and I thought I would share with you these helpful tips on how to cope while waiting for important news.

Other members of our forum may have had similar paraspinal lesions detected after an MRI scan and I hope that someone will be along to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
