Not reassured after breast clinic

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences to me- about a month ago I noticed my nipple has started to invert, the breast tissue in that side feels different, more bumpy etc and I'm getting a burning sensation in the breast. I saw my GP about 2 weeks after noticing it and was seen today at breast clinic- the consult was absolutely awful, made me feel like I was a time waster and was quite rude. I had an ultrasound which lasted all of 2 seconds where she didn't move the probe around at all and was told everything is normal. I should feel relieved and reassured but I really don't! No alternative diagnosis was given. I'm 39.

  •   so sorry you had this experience. I have a slightly inverted nipple which was investigated a couple of years ago. The Consultant gave me a thorough examination and I had a mammogram. Completely reassured that everything was ok. Mine was put down to the aging process as I’m 64. Were you seen by a Consultant or their registrar or was it another professional?  Absolutely double check. I would go back to your GP and explain what happened and how you feel. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself- you need to be reassured.

  • Go back to your GP and tell him or her about your experience and that you would like another check up.  It is sometimes necessary to take the bull by the horns and in YOUR case, this is one of those times.  Good luck.

  • Hi LollyPop,  I am sorry that you had that horrible experience, nobody should feel like a time waster.  You know your body more than anyone else and if you feel like something is wrong you are correct in getting it checked out.  I would definitely go back to the GP and ask for another referral.  Can you be referred to a different hospital/consultant?  Good luck.
